My involvement in land use matters with the City of Ramsey has spanned nearly a decade. I first became involved in contesting a land use application proposed on vacant property adjacent to my current home known as the "Apple Ridge Development" in 1996. It was a direct result of the method and manner in which I opposed that land use application that ultimately resulted in my being appointed as a member of the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment. Following the untimely passing of Leo Anderson, the then Chair of the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments, I transitioned from Vice Chair to Chair. I have been reappointed as the Chairperson of the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments, if memory serves me correctly, for the past five years. In that position, I believe I have made significant contributions as the City has navigated the many land use changes during that period, including each of the following: ♦ Major Comprehensive Plan Amendment; • Establishment of Ramsey Town Centre; • Consideration and Adoption of Cluster Ordinance; and ♦ A myriad of other land use applications for commercial and residential development. During the period in which I have been a Planning Commissioner and member of the Board of Adjustments, the City of Ramsey has undergone significant change in its land use classifications and has made significant strides in moving from a "rural bedroom community" to one in which great effort has been placed (and success realized) on making Ramsey a "livable community" where our residents are given the ability to work and live in the same community. If you look at those communities in the Twin Cities metropolitan area that Ipersonaily believe have achieved the greatest benefits for their residents, they share at least one common element, that is the ability to provide such an environment. I have learned much as a Planning Commissioner and member of the Board of Adjustments. I believe I have more to offer the City given my experience. Acknowledging that the City's policies regarding requests for appointment or reappointment to its commissions and boards requires the applicant to submit a preprinted form and answer pre - established questions, I believe my contributions over the past decade are well established, my positions known, and my contributions recognized.
