Councilmember Cook expressed it is not a big loss to paint for $1,000. He stated if the roofing
team is still there they could put up galvanized aluminum and paint it to look like the roof.
Mayor Gamec concluded the general consensus is to go ahead with painting for $1,000.
Assistant City Administrator Nelson pointed out it is customary to put a dedication plaque inside
the new building. She asked the Councilmembers if there is anything special it would like on the
plaque besides the standard items.
Mayor Gamec stated the standard is fine and there is a good sample at the current City Hall.
Assistant City Administrator Nelson said she would start on the plaque. She indicated she is not
sure where it would be placed; perhaps one of the Council Chamber walls would be a good
choice.
Mayor Gamec stated he would like it placed where it could best be seen.
Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated the dedication would be mid - October with the move
in date scheduled for October 27.
Mayor Gamec asked if the Council could meet in the new building the first Thursday of
November.
City Administrator Norman answered in the affirmative.
Assistant City Administrator Nelson mentioned an open house would be near the end of
November.
Easement Acquisition - (discussion added to agenda)
Attorney Goodrich stated a favorable settlement would be about $7,500. He explained
ramifications could occur because the City had not settled with the others. Mr. Goodrich
explained there is one neighbor who would not settle until McKusick did. He mentioned Brian
Olson spoke to Kurt Deter, a ditch law attorney and the City is well within its rights to use the
property as it has. He reported that McKusick's attorney claims the City trespassed._' Attorney
Goodrich informed the Council that the City had settled with about 50 other property owners.
Councilmember Elvig asked if there are any anomalies with the property.
Attorney Goodrich stated trees were taken on the ditch easement area.
Councilmember Elvig stated go with the $7,500.
Mayor Gamec stated there is consensus to go with a proposed $7,500 settlement.
City Council Work Session / August 14, 2006
Page 5 of 9
-55-
