Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan indicated the tournament cost was $764.58 due to
the fact that 17 golfers were not required to pay for participation in the event. Among those were
the Business of the Year and last year's Business of the Year.

Member Elvig arrived at 7:35 a.m.

Mr. Sullivan explained there were a couple of observations brought to staffs attention regarding
the event and its success. The following recommendations/suggestions were made:
1. Play was too slow, too much time at hole sponsor games
2. Play was slow, no other reason
3. The specific prize donated was not awarded individually
4. Large prizes donated did not have a dollar value assigned to them

The EDA discussed the above recommendations, and the following suggestions in relation to the
2006 Business Appreciation Day golf event:
· Incorporate a list recognizing all the sponsors
· Dollar value of the prize to be announced when it is awarded
· Possibility of limiting the businesses to twosomes rather than foursomes
· Possibility of a morning/afternoon shotgun with a luncheon between the events
· Possibility of utilizing two golf courses and meeting for dinner
· Limit businesses to one team unless there are available spots close to event time
· Lunch served prior to the golftournament, followed by appetizers and cocktails
· Limit on staff participation

Consensus of the EDA was in the future the Business Appreciation Day Golf Event should be
limited to 36 teams, with one team per business unless there is room for an additional team to
register close to event time; the invitation should encourage businesses to register early;
participants should be accepted on a first come/first serve basis; staff participation should be
limited; sponsors should be strategically placed; twosomes should be encouraged; a list should
be incorporated recognizing all the sponsors; and the dollar value of the prize should be
announced when it is awarded

Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan suggested the awarding of the Business of the
Year is a process that may need some work. He reviewed the following criteria:
1. Been involved in all aspects of the community.
2. Provided for the maintenance or expansion of the commercial/industrial tax base of the
community through the development of new business ventures or the retention or
expansion of existing businesses.
3. Expanded or retained the employment base of the community.
4. Been a positive influence to the business community.

Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan indicated this criteria is somewhat ambiguous and
staff is welcome to suggestions that might make the award process more concrete. Items such as
number of jobs created, tax base created and specific contributions to the community could be
documented and used as specific criteria to determine the Business of the Year.
