• Chairperson Riley inquired if the old Town Hall still falls under the EDA. Economic
Development Coordinator Sullivan responded in the affirmative.
Member Schindel inquired about the golf tournament budget. Economic Development
Coordinator Sullivan replied the golf tournament is proposed to be budgeted at $4,000. The next
case on the agenda will include information regarding the net expenditure for this year's
tournament. In the past more has been spent on the tournament, but they may be getting to the
point with sponsorships where they are able to get closer to a wash with the costs. He suggested
amending the budget to allocate $2,000 for the golf tournament, and to add the $2,000 that is cut
from this line item into the capital outlay line item for land acquisitions. Chairperson Riley
suggested the golf tournament line item (6249) amount be amended to $1,000.
Consensus of the EDA was to amend the proposed 2007 budget to include a $1,000 expenditure
for golf tournament line item 6249, with the $3,000 cut from this line item moved into the capital
outlay (6510 — land) line item.
Member Kiefer noted there is nothing budgeted for entrance signs (line item 6530), which has
been discussed by the EDA numerous times. Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan
explained priorities have been in land acquisition at this time. He would recommend this line
item remain as a place holder, which would allow money to be shifted as needed. The budget
can be amended throughout the year.
• Motion by Member LeTourneau, seconded by Member Steffen, to recommend to City Council to
levy the amount of $393,375 utilizing the EDA levy, and to implement the proposed 2007 budget
with the following amendment: $1,000 expenditure for golf tournament line item 6249, with the
$3,000 cut from this line item moved into the capital outlay (6510 — land) line item.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Riley, Members LeTourneau, Steffen, Kiefer,
Schindel, and Strommen. Voting No: None. Absent: Member Elvig.
Case #2: Business Appreciation Day Update
Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan provided an update on the 2006 Business
Appreciation Day. He stated this year's event went well, and there were a lot of good comments.
The move by this body to make the EDA more front and center was a good idea, and provided
the EDA with a forum to get acquainted with the community. Mr. Sullivan indicated the plan for
this year's event was to have 36 teams and 144 golfers. This goal was almost achieved, with 37
teams and 148 golfers. Three teams: Dynapast, St. Germain Style, and Quality Metalcraft were
turned away from the event this year. Letters were sent and phone calls were made explaining
that the event was full and asking the businesses to resubmit next year. Mr. Sullivan noted when
the event was nearing the 36 team limit he contacted some businesses and asked them to go
down to twosomes, rather than foursomes, in order to accommodate other businesses.
Economic Development Authority /September 7, 2006
Page 3 of 7
