<br />accountants or by advertising the specific position. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley confirmed that the cost involved for his time to supervise and <br />train in the Finance Department would be substantial. <br /> <br />Council proceeded to review the Personnel Committee recommendations to <br />test the present part-time data entry for assistance in the Finance <br />Department; hire a secretary for Community Development; postpone creation <br />of a Utility/Park Coordinator; hire an additional police officer. <br /> <br />Council proceeded to review the recommendations for adequate_equipment. <br />Council debated the pros and cons of purchasing used equipment. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember DeLuca to direct <br />the City Administrator to advertise for the positions of accountant and <br />community development secretary and to test the current part-time data <br />entry clerk for capabilities to assist in the Finance Department and <br />advancement to full-time employee. Further, that if none of the applicants <br />for the accountant position indicate management potential, to hire one <br />accountant and advertise for a Finance Officer. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Cox, <br />DeLuca and Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember DeLuca and seconded by Councilmember Sorteberg to <br />authorize the purchase of additional word processing equipment. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Councilmember Cox stated that it appears every time <br />there is a turnover in Finance Department personnel, more computer <br />equipment is needed. Mr. Hartley stated that there will be recommendations <br />for additional equipment because tbe City bas lost it's software support <br />and in order to be sure the City has a system that will meet it's needs <br />while making sure the capabilities of the system are being utilized to the <br />fullest. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: ~~yor Reimann, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Cox, <br />DeLuca and Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember DeLuca, for <br />discussion, to contract out for mowing and spraying manpower and equipment. <br /> <br />Furtber Discussion: Councilmember DeLuca stated that he doesn't feel the <br />City can effectively contract out for mowing and spraying this year. <br /> <br />Motion failed. Voting Yes: Councilmember Cox. Voting No: Mayor Reimann, <br />Councilmembers Sorteberg, DeLuca and Pearson. <br /> <br />Council directed tbat for now, mowing and spraying will continue to be <br />accomplished by present employees and equipment. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley recommended tbat Council purchase the basic equipment required <br />by OSHA safety standards for maintenance of a sewer and water utility <br />department. <br /> <br />City Council/May 31,1988 <br /> <br />Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br />fll <br />
