Hartley stated that the proposed ordinance
amendment would allow Council, on acase-by-case basis, to authorize the
discharge of firearms 'to"ith larger than a ifi4 shot. Chief Auspos no~ed that
the final-paragraph of the ordinance states that the City Council may
authorize an approved organization to do the shooting. Chief Auspos also
noted that it may take 3-4 years of controlled shooting alleviate the
overpopulation of geese problem. Mr. Bartley noted that the ordinance
am.endment is being introduced; Council is not obligated to adopt it at a
later date. Councilmember Bawden noted that even if the ordinance is
adopted, it would still take Council approval to have a controlled hunt.
Mayor Reimann stated that he would prefer another method to c ontrollingthe
geese population, but if there has to be a controlled hunt it is better to
have it before the area is too densely developed. Chief Auspos stated that
he will have City Attorney Goodrich research the liability associated with
controlled hunts.

Motion carried.
