5 Minutes CASE tlO: ~I LE'r1'ER CF INI'ENI' TO MAINTAIN OR IMPROlE BUILDIR; CODE Rm~ By: Dave Hartley, City Administrator Background: We have received a nunber of concerns expressed by businessmen within the City of Ramsey relating to the quality and type of development which has been permitted in the p:ist and which will be permitted in the future. The City Council has adopted current building code requirements which, in addition to assuring safety requiranents for the construction of buildings, also assures a reasonable level of quality in construction. Prior to making additional investments in the form of expansion within our community, these corporate citizens have requested a statement of intent on the part of the City Council to either maintain or improve upon the building code requirements and requiranents that relate to quality of construction in the cornmerial/industrial area of Ramsey. As is always the case, the City Council cannot bind future Councils or even i tsel f to some future act; however, the City Council can make a clear expression of its intent. Enclosed is a draft letter prepared for the City Council's review and approval. Reccmnendation: Council action will be to review and/or modify the draft letter of intent relating to current building code standards and quality of construction. Council Action: Motion to: Approve the letter of intent to maintain or improve upon building code requirements and quality of construction within the City of Ramsey's commerCial/industrial areas and to authorize the Mayor to sign said letter on behalf of the City Council.
