Food Waste Prevention
Week is an online and in -person awareness campaign to inspire cultural changes that reduce food
waste at home, work, and in our communities.
The county is providing useful tips and tools anyone can use at home or work to reduce
food waste and help people save money.
Up to 38 percent of all food produced in the United States goes uneaten, causing significant
economic, environmental, and social repercussions. Ending food loss and waste requires
purposeful action.
Why does reducing wasted food matter?
• Saves money -A family of four can save on average $1866 to $3000 each year by reducing
wasted food.
• Conserves resources - Land, water, fuel, and human resources are used to grow, package,
and transport food.
• Improves food access - Safe and nutritious food can be better utilized to strengthen food
access in our communities.
"Anoka County is committed to reducing food waste because it is the most efficient and cost-
effective strategy to manage waste," said Jonelle Hubbard, director of Anoka County's Public
Health and Environmental Services Department. Wasted food is a problem we can solve. Each
community member has the potential to personally affect how much food goes unused. Therefore,
Anoka County supports Food Waste Prevention Week and will take actions to reduce food waste
in the Anoka County community."
-more-
Respectful, Innovative, Fiscally Responsible
Government Center A 2100 V Avenue, Suite 700 A Anoka, MN 55303-5024 A www.anokacountymn.gov
Office:763-324-4700 A Fax:763-324-5490
Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
