Mr. H~xrtley informed the applicants that he expects the Personnel Committee to make a
recommendation to City Council on Tuesday, February 14 regarding the filling of the
maintenance worker position.

Councilmember Cich reviewed ail of the other applications for the maintenance worker
position and stated that he feels there are two more applicants that deserve additional
consideration. Both of those applicants had strong education and work experience in the
area of municipal water systems.

Mr. Mevissen stated that his choice of applicants to be interviewed was based on his need
for a general maintenance worker that lives in the northern area and can be readily available
in cases of emergencies; that the main thrust of the position he is trying to fill is not
maintenance of the municipal water system.

Councilmember Cich stated that it would be to the City's advantage to hire maintenance
workers with experience in the area of municipal water systems.

The Personnel Committee directed that two additional applicants for the maintenance
worker position, Daniel Krantz and Glen Beaver, be invited for an interview with the
Personnel Committee on Monday, Februar3, 13, 1989.

COMMITTEE INPUT

Mr. Hartley stated that the agenda for the Personnel Committee meeting on Monday,
February 13 includes discussion of a rate increase for the Chief of Police; rate increases for
the remainining non-union employees will be reviewed at a subsequent meeting.

Mr. Hartley also requested that the Personnel Committee give some thought to what they
would like to do regarding excluding department heads from the bargaining unit.

Councilmember Cich requested a copy of the December 27, 1988 Personnel Committee
meeting minutes.

ADJOURNMENT

The Personnel Committee meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, / ,-~ '"' / /
/. / /:"'4/'
,. ,./ .i ,//,;.'
