Sec. 54-26. Permits for curb loading and unloading. <br />(a) The city engineer is authorized to issue special permits to permit the backing of a vehicle to the curb for the <br />purpose of loading or unloading merchandise or materials subject to the terms and conditions of such <br />permit. <br />(b) It shall be unlawful for any permittee or other person to violate any of the special terms or conditions of any <br />such permit. <br />(Code 1978, § 6.03.06; Ord. No. 5, 3-15-1971) <br />Sec. 54-27. Lights on a parked vehicle. <br />Whenever a vehicle is lawfully parked at nighttime upon any street within a business or residential district, <br />no lights need be displayed upon such parked vehicle. <br />(Code 1978, § 6.03.07; Ord. No. 5, 3-15-1971) <br />State law reference(s)—Lights on parked vehicles, Minn. Stats. § 169.53. <br />Sec. 54-28. Prohibited parking. <br />No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in <br />compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or traffic control device, in any of the following places: <br />(1) Directly across from a public or private driveway and, except for culs-de-sac and eyebrows, within <br />three feet of either side of a public or private driveway, measured at the curb, other than the owner's <br />d riveway. <br />(2) Within a properly marked fire lane; <br />(3) Within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at <br />the side of a roadway; <br />(4) Between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet of points on the curb immediately <br />opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless the city engineer has indicated a different length by signs or <br />marking; <br />(5) Within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite the <br />entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of said entrance; <br />(6) Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping, standing, or parking would <br />obstruct traffic; <br />(7) On a roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street; <br />(8) On any boulevards; and <br />(9) No motor vehicle shall stop or park on the shoulders of a public highway or street in the immediate <br />vicinity of a theater during the hours it is in operation. <br />(Supp. No. 12, Update 2) <br />Created: 2023-07-25 12:16:52 [EST] <br />Page 4 of 17 <br />
