Steffen <br /> <br />DATE' February 20, 197-5 <br /> <br />SUBJECT' RECOMMENDED POLICY ON SELECTED LEGISLATIVE MATTERS <br /> <br />Tax Matters. <br /> <br />There has been considerable discussion in the news media <br />regarding changes in the tax laws which will be considered <br />by the 1975 Legislature. -While the Ramsey City Council-and <br />its staff are not in a position to recommend a tax program, <br />we should point out concerns with current tax laws as they <br />apply to our community. <br /> <br />The current system involves the following inequities: <br /> <br />a) Local Government Aids are based on 1970 population figures <br />rather than current population. The aid computation for the <br />City of Ramsey in 1975 based on a 1970 population of 2,360 <br />is $48,349. ~f the 197'4 Municipal Commission figure of 6,517 <br />had been used, the Local Government Aid to Ramsey would have <br />been approximately $133,000.
