<br />. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that a political task force is being formed to <br />study this traffic problem consisting of two county commissioners from Anoka <br />County and two county commissioners from Hennepin County and one counci;bpeJSson <br />each from Anoka, Dayton, Champlin and Ramsey. <br /> <br />./ <br /> <br />Commissioner Vevea stated that Anokahas an industrial park behind the <br />Cornelius Company that is locked in because of access problems with the <br />railroad tracks and Ferry Street and they are in favor of the Thurston <br />Avenue grade c~ossing. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that a regular grade crossing will not solve the <br />problem, that an above or below grade crossing is needed, especially in <br />emergency situations. <br /> <br />Commissioner Vevea stated thatAnoka has indicated they would support <br />any ideas that Ramsey comes up with because the State Highway Department <br />is proposing to widen Ferry Street and eliminate everything on the west <br />side of Ferry and the cost of those right-of-ways would be approximately <br />$10,000,000. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated Ramsey's other concern as the-routing of traffic <br />through Anoka to Hwy. 18. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Schmidt and seconded by Commissioner Vevea to adopt <br />Resolution #84-1 that in consideration of the following, the Ramsey Economic <br />Development Commission supports as a first priority item the establishment <br />of an above or below grade crossing and connector west of the RUm River, <br />but no further west than Sunfish Lake Blvd.: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1. The present amount of traffic on T.H. #47 forced to go through <br />that grade crossing. <br /> <br />2. Safety reasons. <br /> <br />3. To improve economic development in the Anoka/Ramsey area. <br /> <br />(Please refer to resolution file for Resolution #84-1). <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Greenberg, Commissioners Muller, <br />Miller, Schmidt, Fults, Guy, Vevea and Hard~n. Voting No: pone. /. ~ . .L J <br />Absent: Commissioners Schneider and Cox. (.Jl--e.e..- ~ ~~ ~ ~ 1 ~{,. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Schmidt and seconded by Commissioner Fults to adopt <br />Resolution #84-2 stating that of equal importance to an above or below <br />grade railroad crossing is the development of an alternate route to the <br />Ferry Street bottleneck and the Ramsey Economic Development Commission <br />supports a bridge crossing west of the existing bridge. Ramsey EDC <br />urges the important cooperation of Hennepin and Anoka Counties, MnDot, <br />and the cities of Anoka, Champlin, Dayton and Ramsey. (Please refer to <br />resolution file for Resolution #84-2). <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
