VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
RAMSEY CLEAN.UP DAY

RAMSEY PICKUP WEEKENDS
ARE FILLING UP FAST

As you may be aware, The Make the Scene, Keep
Ramsey Clean Committee has scheduled the annual
Ramsey Clean-Up Day for May 6, 1989. On this day
the Committee will be coordinating the clean-up of
roadways and vacant lots. To make this clean-up ef-
fort as successful as possible, community support
is necessary.
It is our hope that the citizens of Ramsey will be
able to volunteer some time to help in this clean-up
effort. The clean-up would last from 9:00 a.m. until
1 :00 p.m. with a picnic at Central Park following. The
picnic would include free lunch, pop, and awards for
the volunteer groups. The facilities at Central Park
will also be available to make the day a family affair.
If you or your group are interested in volunteer-
ing on Saturday, May 6, 1989 for the Ramsey Clean.
Up Day, please call Jim Gromberg at 427-1410.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

The Make the Scene, Keep Ramsey Clean Com-
mittee still has a few openings for the pick-up ser-
vice during the month of April. So far the Commit-
tee has arranged to pickup over 7 tons of materials
during these weekend pickups.
Residents interested in having tires, auto batteries,
and major appliances picked up should call Jim
Gromberg at 427.1410 as soon as possible to
schedule an appointment. Materials to be picked up
should be placed curbside by 8:30 a.m. on the day
of the pick up. Only those residents who have made
an appointment will have their materials picked up.
Residents are also encouraged to have one pickup
for the entire neighborhood, if possible. By doing
this, fewer pickups could serve a larger number of
people.
BRUSH CHIPPING PROGRAM
TO BE OFFERED

The City of Ramsey, because of the serious threat
to the forest population, is developing a decentraliz-
ed brush chipping operation with funding support
from the Metro Council. Brush disposal can be a pro-
blem and chipping converts the brush into a usable
product, with no disease problems. Ramsey's brush
chipping program will offer the following services:
· Brush chipping (at no or minimal cost)
· Information on tree disease prevention
· Information on the correct use of wood chips
· Wood chips available for use
· Information on the correct use of yard clippings
will also be available.
These free services are offered to control the cur-
rent disease problems and limit the number of bur-
ning permits issued during the year. These services
could also be provided on a neighborhood.wide for-
mat to encourage the effective use of the resources
available.

Who is eligible?

All residents with brush or prunings from healthy or
diseased trees who are willing to prepare the piles
correctly.

How can you participate?

Fill out the questionnaire and return it to Bruce
Bacon, Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen
GUIDELINES FOR

BRUSH PILES

If you anticipate participating in the brush chipping
program, the following guidelines will apply:
· Brush must be stacked with the trunk ends in
the same direction.
· Brush diameter should be 5 inches or less and
length is restricted to 6-8 feet. Brush piles may
be stacked up to 6 feet in height.
· Brush must be neatly stacked where it is readily
accessible to the truck and chipper trailer, i.e.,
alongside driveways.
· Only clean brush and limb piles will be ac-
cepted; i.e., no rocks, dirt, stumps, metal,
plastic, cloth, boards, leaves or grass.
· Healthy and diseased brush, limbs and prun-
ings will be accepted. The chipping process
removes the disease hazards and the chips
can be used for mulch, landscaping, weed con-
trol and moisture retention.
NOTE: At this time there is no set schedule for the
chipping operations. More information will be
published in the April issue of the Ramsey Resident.
DYING PINES?

Do your pines look brown? Are you losing your
windbreak or shelter belts? Harvey Buchite, the
Anoka County extension agent for agriculture and.
horticulture will be joined by Tom Eiber, entomologist
with the Department of Natural Resources, and Phil
Vieth of the Department of Natural Resources. They
will answer your questions about what is causing the
death of pines in Anoka County and what action you
can take. The date is April 5th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00
p.m. at the Bunker Hills Activity Center, 550 Bunker
Lake Blvd., Andover. For more information, you can
