seeded with a costly native prairie seed
mixture. These typically perennial plant
species are a bit slow to mature, but when
established will make an attractive and
educational backdrop to the river. The
resulting prairie habitat will harbor its own
types of animal species.
A similar prairies restoration project is
under way behind the hockey rinks at
Ramsey Elementary School. The project,
spearheaded by the Cheerful Chugger's 4-H
group with assistance from the Park
Department, will be a valuable educational
resource to the school when it is established.
Members of this same 4-H group also
planted trees in Titterud Park to celebrate
Arbor Day. Other group tree plantings
consisted of the Ramsey Roadrunners 4-H
Club planting at Shawn Acres Park, Webelos
Pack 362, Den 4, planting at Autumn Heights
Park and a coalition of residents also planting
hundreds of trees, including White Spruce,
Ginnala Maple, White Oak, Norway Pine, and
Black Walnuts at Rabbit Park (located in
Sorteberg's 6th Addition).
The first week of this month, a pay phone
was installed at the concession stand in
Central Park. The primary purpose is to
provide 24 hour emergency phone access to
park users. While there is no substitute for
the watchful eye of Mom or Dad, the phone
should provide an added measure of peace
of mind in addition to convenience.
Minor vandalism continues to be a
problem with all our park facilities, so please
help your Police Department and keep an
eye on your investments.
For park facility use permits or
information about park and recreation
opportunities call Mark Boos at 427-1741 or
leave a message at 427-1410.
