Shared Ride Joins

Anoka County Traveler

by Jill Brown, Anoka County
Low-cost, door-to-door shared ride transportation service is
now available to all 22 communities in Anoka County. On
December 3, Shared Ride transit service begins operating in
Fridley, and expands service from Columbia Heights and
Hilltop; this service links up with the Anoka County Traveler
(Traveler) at Northtown Mall.
What this means to the residents of Anoka County is that
they can travel anywhere in the County at the low price of
about one dollar for a one-way trip.
"This service is Minnesota's First county-wide, locally
coordinated door-to-door public transit service to operate for
the general public," according to Commissioner Kordiak.
"There are no eligibility requirements for this transportation
program. Our goal is to provide transit opportunities for
everyone."
To travel to destinations within these three communities or
to Northtown Mall, people need to call at least two hours in
advance of a needed ride by dialing the Shared Ride phone
number at 935-9911.
To travel north of Fridley from the three southern Anoka
County communities, people need to call at least 24 hours in
advance of a needed ride by dialing the Traveler phone
number of 464-8883.
The Traveler/Shared Ride is a pilot program which goes
through December 1991. Its purpose is to test the
transportation service needs of the County.
COATED ABRASIVE PRODUCTS COMPANY

(CAPCO) EXPANDS

The CAPCO facility at 14059 Sunfish Lake Blvd. NW is in
the process of a 5,400 square foot expansion. The company,
founded in 1984, relocated from Blaine to Ramsey in 1989.
CAPCO manufactures abrasive products used in industrial
manufacturing and distributes these products nationally.
CAPCO also has a branch operation in Greensboro, North
Carolina and Los Angeles, California. The Ramsey branch
employs 20 people and the Greensboro and Los Angeles
branches employ 12.
CAPCO is quite proud of the fact that the December, 1990
issue of "Inc." magazine named CAPCO as one of the five
companies in Minnesota considered to be in the top 500 fastest
growing companies in the nation.
Paul Burzynski, President of CAPCO, stated that the
company's continued growth is the result of providing its
customers with quality sanding products and dependable
delivery. Customer service and satisfaction are two of
CAPCO's most important goals.
Santa Claus Visits Ramsey

Jolly St. Nick took time out to visit the children of Ramsey.
On his way to visit other children in other cities, he paid a visit
to our Fire Department and wanted a ride on one of our new
trucks. He happened to be on the fire truck when it pulled up in
front of the Ramsey Fire Department's Christmas party (do you
think it was a coincidence). One thing Santa asked of our
firemen is to get a list and check it twice for the boys and girls
who weren't as fortunate as others to go see Santa. If the
Ramsey Fire Department can receive name of children who
are unable to get out to see Santa, maybe we can talk him into
visiting these children at their homes. We'll bring up this
subject again next November, but until then, keep an ear open
for this opportunity to make a child's Christmas even better
next. year! Until then, Think Spring.
