GENERATION AT RISK

January 28, 1987, 7:00 p.m.

In 1983 something astounding occurred across
the nation. A television program - "THE CHEMICAL
PEOPLE" - aired on PBS and the impact of the pro-
gram mobilized 8,000 task forces in communities
across the country to take action against teenage
drug and alcohol abuse. The goal of this second
CHEMICAL PEOPLE program called "GENERA-
TION AT RISK" is to heighten the impact of those
task forces by educating the community that we have
generation at risk - that drug and alcohol abuse
continues to be one of the major problems facing to-
day's young people. We find that other problems
also are part of their lives. The problems sometimes
interrelate, seldom are alone and the causes are
constantly being researched.
"GENERATION AT RISK" explores the
multidimensional spectrum of problems facing to-
day's youth. The program focuses on the continu-
ing abuse of substances, as well as the issues of
teen pregnancy, suicide, and the alarming 27% high-
school drop-out rate.
Ramsey Community Education Chemical People
Task Force is planning local events to coincide with
the national event. If you are interested in helping
to organize these events, contact Claudia Dodge,
422-5199.

fered this fall, both enrichment and physical ac-
tivities. If you did not get a brochure call 422-5199
or stop in the Community School office in the
Elementary School and pick one up. Mini sessions
of additional classes will start November 3rd so
the week of October 20th.

ADVENTURES PLUS PROGRAM

Adventures Plus Program provides a safe, super-
vised, play environment for elementary aged
children before and after school and on school vaca-
tion days. Children in kindergarten through fifth
grade are welcome in the program which em-
phasizes the development of social, emotional,
physical, and recreational skills.
Working parents bring their children to school
sometime after 6:30 a.m. A staff person greets them
in the cafeteria as they sign in their children. The
children choose from a variety of activities within the
Adventures Plus program and the parents go off to
work. Shortly before school starts, the children en-
joy a breakfast/snack and get ready for school.
After school, the children walk to the designated
Adventures Plus area. The children enjoy a snack
and participate in planned activities. As parents
return home from work, they pick up their children
at school.
The hours of the program are: Before school -
6:30-9:30 a.m.; After school - 3:30-6:00 p.m.;
Nonschool days - 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
For information about fees, to visit the program,
or to enroll your child, contact Deb Miller, Adventures
Plus Program Coordinator, Ramsey, 422-5114.
RAMSEY LIONS CLUB

The Ra.":,sey Lions have been keeping busy late-
ly. In addition to the routine activities the Lions are
involved in, the Halloween spook house at the
Ramsey school was an unqualified success again
this year.
The Lions sponsored a Country and Western
Chri.stm~~ Concert for a group from the Ramsey
Senior Citizens. The concert was held in St. Paul on
l?ecember 14. We hope that everyone had a great
time.
Those that hav~ passed by Central Park lately
have probably noticed a shelter that is under con-
struction. This is a 20' x 40' shelter that is being fund-
ed by the Lions and will be completed by the time
the weather breaks. This will be a nice addition to
the facilities at the park. This project is just one of
several projects that the Lions have planned to utilize
our fund raising profits in the community.
. A Sweetheart Dance is being planned on Valen-
tines Day. (Feb. 14,. 1987) to be held at the Party
House. ~~~ner and live band dancing are all part of
the festiVities. Look for the flyers that will be cir-
culated around town shortly and if you are interested
contact one of the Lions members for ticket infor-
mation. This is a reservation only party.
Th~nk you to all Ramsey citizens that purchased
colOring books from the Lions. You helped make this
fund raiser a huge success.
