District,ARCC Offers Pilot Employee Program

Businesses and industries
involved would pay costs of
the program.
AVTI Director Nuri Hassu-
mani explained that an out-
reach, coordinator would be
needed to coordinate efforts '
between the educational insti:
tutions and business and in-.
dustry.
Deputy Superintendent
David Wettergren said a full
proposal including a budget,
position description, and pro-
gram definition will be brought
back to the 'school board for
action later.

basic skill areas. "For ex-
ample, when we offered a
course in geometric toleranc-
ing, we had 360 people sign up
but many could not handle the
math involved so we decided
to build in a basic education
component," he said.
Under the cooperative ar-
rangement, Metro North AB/
CE would provide instructors
for basic skill classes and
both the AVTI and community
college would provide instruc-
tors for the appropriate tech-
nical and professional
courses.

skills or retrain for new jobs,
BernellFedje, director of
Metro North AB/CE, said area
business and industry has a
need for education programs
for its employees, "We did an
informal survey to see if in-
dustry was interested. They bit
on the survey and we got into
some discussions," he said,
He explained that corporate
executives are saying changes
in manufacturing and new
equipment mean a need for re-
training for their employees. In
some cases, employees first
need refresher courses in

munication skills and elemen-
tary algebra to specific tech-
nical skills such as geometric
tolerancing and precision
measurement. '
Under a preliminary plan
presented to the School Board
July 22, cooperative arrange-
ments of this type would be
expanded to other interested
businesses and industries. '
Jerry, Stuhr, Anoka AVTI
assistant director, noted that
tremendous increases in en-
rollment in the AVTI's adult ex-
tension division point to a
need for persons to update job
