Club meetings are held in the Anoka City Hall, 2015 First Avenue, in the lower level Community Room. Meet- ings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Each meeting starts with a sing-a-long at 1:15 p.m. with a business meeting (on the first Tuesday) or social meeting (on the third Tuesday) following at 1 :30 p.m. Meetings are capped off by refreshments and con- versation and are usually over by 4 p.m. We always have a good time, so please join us! The renovation of Lincoln Elementary School playgrounds continues on schedule. The'project is a combined effort of the Lincoln School parents and teachers, Anoka-Hennepin School District and the City of Anoka. The Anoka Senior Center located at Sixth and Washing- ton (George Bean Park) ex- tends an invitation to all seniors to join us at the center (60 years of age for dining, 55 years of age for activities). We have dining five days a week at 12 noon. Reservations are two days in advance, but should you wish to come a cer- tain day and you have not registered, please call, as sometimes cancellations need t~ be filled. A Sunday Brunch is held once a month, prepared and served by the Senior Volun- teers, as a fund raiser for the center. A menu of waffles, pancakes (all you can eat), scrambled eggs, sausage, juice and coffee or partial orders are available with a maximum charge of $1.50. The brunch is open to the public, so for more information, call Dorothy Jorgenson at the' Anoka Senior Center at 421- 8090. Exercise classes are held on each Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m. Mary Marsh is the instructor. A Senior Citizens Van Task Force has begun meeting to determine if there isa need to provide transportation servic- es to Anoka area senior citi- zens. If the task force deter- mines that there is a need, a van may be purchased through donations that would be used for driving senior citizens to congregate dining, shopping and other activities. A survey is being prepared by the task force to find out if there is any interest among seniors for this service. T~e survey will be dis- tributed to area senior citi- zens, so won't you please fill it out and return it when you receive the survey? First Place Mayors Award Trophy was won at Waite Park Spass.Tag Festival on Sunday, June 9. It was the first of seven 1985 awards won by the Anoka float and royalty as of August 10. Other awards are from Brooklyn Park Tater Days, Blaine's Blazin' 4th, South St. Paul Kaposia Days, Robbins- dale Whiz Bang Days, Glenwood Waterama, North Hudson Pepper Festival. Our float and royalty along with four chaperones will be attending 30 parades between May and the end of September. We are proud of the publiclity and good will we extend on behalf of the City of Ahoka to the many communities we visit.
