The popu-
lar "Cancer Answers" news-
paper column and radio pro-
gram are also now educational
services completely sponsor-
ed and funded by the Society.
The Cancer Information Ser-
vice (CIS), newspaper column

and radio program have pre- '
viously been a cooperative
project of the Society and.the
Mayo Comprehensive Cancer
Center under a National Can-
cer Institute contract. Effec-
tive June 15, the contract end-
ed as the Mayo bid was not
renewed by the National Can-
cer Institute. The American
Cancer Society, Minnesota Di-
vision executive committee
voted unanimously to assume
responsibility for the entire
support of the projects.
"These are very important

Volunteers Needed To Drive
Cancer Patients To Treatment

If you can spare a few hours
each month and you drive a
car, you can volunteer for a
particularly satisfying and ful-
filling effort: driving cancer pa-
tients to and from treatment
centers.
Tran sportation assi stance
for cancer patients is an in-
creasin'gly needed service pro-
vided by the American Cancer
Society, Minnesota Division.
Because cancer patients are
living longer and many more
are being cured, and because
patients are more commonly
being treated on an out-patient
basis, the requests for trans'
portation assistance are be-
coming more numerous.
"This is a real opportunity to

know that you are preforming
a truly valuable volunteer func-
tion," said Rev. Fred Stroebel,
Service. Chairperson, Anoka
County Unit, American Cancer
Society. "Volunteers who have
performed this service, driving
cancer patients to and from
treatment centers, tell me it is
one of the most rewarding
things they have ever done.
They are filling a real need and
they know it is appreciated."
Anyone interested in be-
coming a volunteer driver for
the American Cancer Society
is invited to contact Rev. Fred
Stroebel at 421-3375. Training
will be provided to all new
volunteers.

~:::.:.\.-:,;. r::': " -";"; . ~.:. ;":. {1:./;.'.'~.:i..
.. .~~~.~..... , ,~
~~! :" :I~-:~~~.::.
