Foote,
acting director, Environmental
Services. Each of the new
maps will cover about one-
fourth of the state's territory.
The first map in the series
covers the southeastern quar-
ter of Minnesota. The area
covered extends from Little
Falls east to the Wisconsin
border and from Little Falls
south to Blue Earth.
Foote said Mn/DOT is con-
solidating 10 or 12 small maps
for each quarter of the state to
provide a larger map to
simplify trip planning and to

provide more information to
cyclists at a lower cost.
Copies of previous bikeway
maps will still be available as
long as supply lasts.
The new maps measure 32
inches by 32 inches, about the
size of a standard highway
map, and cost $3 plus $1 for
postage and handling compar-
ed with $1.50 for the smaller
maps.
Cyclists may obtain infor-
mation from the maps about
. the suitability of roads for bik-
ing and the locations of off-
road bi keways, bi ke-pedestri-
an bridges, gravel roads and
controlled-access highways
where bicycles are prohibited.
Besides a special inset bik-
ing map of the Twin. Cities
Metro Area, the first map in
the series includes city maps
for St. Cloud, Mankato, St.
Peter, Faribault, Northfield,
Owatonna, Albert Lea, Austin,
Red Wing, Rochester and
Winona.
The new map informs cycl-

ists about recreational bike
trails such as the Luce Line
State Trail from Minnetonka to
Winsted and about bike trails,
campsites and other facilities
in state and county parks. It
also provides guides to histor-
ic and cultural attractions.
Available for sale at the
Transportation Building in St.
Paul, at Mn/DOT district offic-
es statewide and the Docu-
ments Center at the State
Capitol, the maps are also
available at some bike shops.
Order forms for the maps are
available at many locations in-
cluding Mn/DOT's Travellnfor-
mation Center's.
