GROUP
Public Access Television. C~E

Group W Cable public ac-
cess television provides peo-
ple an opportunity that until
recently did not exist: the op-
portunity to produce their own
TV programs. Before the ad-
vent of the public access con-
cept, television programs were
produced by a small group of
people. The general public had
very little voice in what was
seen on TV. Now everybody
has the opportunity to pro-
duce their own programs and
have them seen on cable TV in
the Quad Cities area (Andover,
Anoka, Champlin and Ramsey).

Staff members do not decide
what type of programs are
made. The access producer
decides on the format and
content of the program. Talk
shows,' coverage of local
speakers and events, original
dramas and comedy are just
some of the types of programs
that can be seen on channel 3,
the public access channel.
To encourage public access
programming Group W Cable
provides complete production
facilities (including portable
cameras, editing equipment
and a studio), an experienced

staff and a variety of channels
reserved for access programs.
The staff offers classes on
equipment operation and pro-
gram production, schedules
and maintains the equipment,
schedules the programs to be
cablecast and, most impor-
tantly, provides assistance
and advice from the start to
the completion of a program.
Also, the staff maintains a list
of volunteers who are willing
to help other people with their
productions. For more
information call 427-2531.
24 Hour State Road Information
Service for Travelers Available

Travelers wanting current
information on road condi-
tions statewide and in the
seven-county Twin Cities
metropolitan area can call the
24-hour road information ser-
vice provided by the Minne-
sota Department of Transpor-
tation (MnIDOT), said Darrell
Schierman, MnlDOT emergen-
cy operations manager.
Reports on statewide lane

restrictions are available by
,calling (612) 296-3076. For road
information in Anoka, Carver,
Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey,
Scott and Washington coun-
ties, travelers should call (612)
297-4103. There is a toll charge
for calls made from outside
the Twin Cities metropolitan
area.
The recorded messages, up-

dated daily, inform callers of
such road conditions as road
closings and lane closures,
Schierman said.
"By calling the road infor-
mation service, motorists can
plan routes to bypass most
construction areas, enabling
them to reach their destina-
tions as conveniently as pos-
sible," he said. .
Area Masons Aid Youth Diabetes. Program

The Grand Lodge of Minne-
sota Maso'ns and the Minne-
sota Masonic Foundation are
actively aiding the many dia-
betic children in Minnesota
through the Juvenile Diabetes
Outreach Program of the Inter-
national Diabetes Center in(
Minneapolis.
Diabetes m'ellitus is the fifth
leading cause of death by
disease in the U.S. There are
approximately 150,000 chil-
dren in the U.S. with diabetes
and a survey indicates one in
every' 529 students in Minne-
sota has diabetes. These chil-

dren require one to four injec-
tions of insulin each day, plus
dietary management and ad-
herence to a comprehensive
therapeutic plan. Diabetes in
children is the most unstable
form of the disease. They must
be very closely monitored dai-
ly.
The Minnesota Grand Lodge
has encouraged constituant
lodges to become involved on
the local level in this worthy
program. AI Nemchik, Wor-
shipful Master of Anoka Lodge
