PC CASE # 1 <br />AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE PAID ON -CALL FIRE FIGHTERS <br />By: Givonna Reed Done, Human Resources Manager <br />Background <br />Due to understaffing, staff began a recruitment process to hire six paid on -call Fire Fighters, <br />which would bring the Department to a full complement of 40 paid -on -call Fire Fighters. A Fire <br />Fighter Orientation was held in September 2006 and interviews were conducted in October 2006. <br />Candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the Fire Chief, both Assistant Fire Chiefs, <br />the Fire Marshal, and the Human Resources Manager. Candidates took the physical agility test <br />the third week in October. <br />At this time staff is recommending that following individuals be hired as paid -on -call Fire <br />Fighters: Carey Schiferli, Michael Nielson, Donald Yamauchi, Robert Tiegen, Jacob Hanson, <br />and David Weigman. All six individuals have successfully completed background checks and <br />medical exams. <br />Staff Reconunendation <br />Staff is recommending that the Personnel Committee make a motion recommending that the City <br />Council hire the following six individuals as paid-on-call Fire Fighters: Carey Schiferli, Michael <br />Nielson, Donald Yamauchi, Robert Tiegen, Jacob Hanson, and David Weigman. These <br />individuals would be hired at an hourly wage of $12.50 and would begin employment on <br />November 29, 2006. <br />Committee Action <br />Motion recommending the City Council hire the following six individuals as paid -on -call Fire <br />Fighters: Carey Schiferli, Michael Nielson, Donald Yamauchi, Robert Tiegen, Jacob Hanson, <br />and David Weigman.
