MAYOR'S
MESSAGE

Our first Ramsey Resident went out as plan-
ned, and I would like to thank everyone who
worked on it and wrote articles to make our
first issue a success. I would also like to
thank the advertisers for making it all pos-
sible. Remember the success of this newslet-
ter depends on all Ramsey Residents to help
put it together.
In my past years as Mayor, one of the
questions I am asked most is 'when will
get sewer and water to my home?" Even
though the City Council has been planning
for sewer and water to come into Ramsey,
our main goal is to keep it out of the res-
idential areas of the city. At the present
time there is no demand to bring sewer and
water to ANY exsisting residential areas of
the City. We have been looking at the area
of Hwy 10 from Berg Oil to Sunfish Lake Blvd.
Most of our efforts have been to bring it to
commercial and industrial zoned land so that
we can make better use of the land and so
that it is easier to get financing to at-
tract commercial business to our City. We
are also looking at the open area in the
Southeast corner of Ramsey by Hwy 47 and
Industrial Blvd. In this area, we would be
UPDATE

The make-up of the Minnesota house of Repre-
sentatives in interesting, and I will share
some facts with you concerning the 1983-85
House.
The House consists of 134 members, with 36
members serving their first term. There are
only 8 members who have served more that 8
terms (16 years) and only 1 is serving his
14th term.
The average age of House members is 45; the
youngest member is 24, and the oldest is 72.
There are 115 male representatives and 19 fe-
male representatives in the 1983-85 House.
61 representatives were elected from rural
districts and 73 from the Metropolitan, Iron
Range, Duluth areas.
There are 29 farmers, 25 educators and 12
attorneys serving in the House of Represent-
atives during this 73rd session.
During the first month of the current ses-
sion, we have received a tremendous amount of
information on a wide variety of subjects. We
spend a great deal of time gathering and re-
viewing this information through committee
hearings, work shops, printed amterials and
people representing organizations on all
sides of an issue.
My committe assignments are Governmental
Operations, Commerce and Economic Development
and Regulated Industries. Two of these commit-
tees divide into sub-committees, and I serve
on two of these sub-committees. Currently, I
spend about 16 hours per week in committee
meetings and hearings.
The Governor will deliver his budget message
to the Legislature on February 15th. This bud-
get package will give us the direction, goals
and priorities for Minnesota during the 1983-85
period.
The task of the Legislature will be to use
this budget message to shape and pass legis-
lation, that will balance the budget and im-
prove Minnesota's economy.
Here in the first month, I have learned a
lot of what it means to be a public servant.
I have been impressed by my fellow represent-
atives, who see themselves as public servants.
They work hard, long hours because they believe
their responsibility is to serve the public's
interest.
If you have any questions, or any informa-
tion concerning issues, you can reach me at
Rm 350, State Office Building, St. Paul, 55155,
phone 296-2209, or call me at home at 421-3464.
looking at single family housing, multiple
dwellings and some commercial property, but
t~is will not affect the Flintwood Hills
Addition.
Before any sewer and water would come to
Ramsey's residential areas we will have sev-
eral public hearings where anyone affected
would get written notice by mail well in
advance of construction. There would also
be small neighborhood meetings to explain
the steps.
I believe the people that have moved to
Ramsey came here so that they could have
a nice home on a large lot, and this is
the way our City Councilmembers and I feel.
We see no reason at the present time to
change this way of life. With the soil
conditions in Ramsey, we can live with our
present septic systems for several years
with proper maintenence.
If you have any questions about sewer and
water before you believe all the comments you
hear, check with our Building Inspector, any
Councilmembers or myself. We will be happy
to answer your questions.
COUNTY UPDATE

Dear Ramsey Residents:
Recently we had a tragic fatal accident on
County Raod 56. A number of you have called
expressing your concern. In response to that
concern a number of things are being consid-
ered or worked on. 1) New and larger street
signs will be installed very soon. 2) Speed
limits for all roads are set by the State of
Minnesota Department of Transportation. The
County Highway Department is working with
the State to determine the appropriate speed
limit for County Raod 56. 3) Lighting of the
roads are the responsibility of the City, iR
this case, Ramsey City Officials. In the
meantime, County Raod 56 is a beautiful new
road, drive carefully and make it a safe one.
There is a vacancy on the Community Health
and Social Services Board. This Board has the
responsibility for advising the County Board
in the areas of public health nursing, so-
cial services, and environmental services. A
person interested in serving on this Board
For the past two years, Ramsey has had
an Economic Development Commission to help
the City in planning it's Commercial and
Industrial growth in the City.
The members are: Don Greenberg; Chairman,
Bob Muller, Vice Chairman, Daryl Fults, Bill
Miller, Stephen Schmidt, Astrid Guy, Jack
Menkveld, Joe Sentryz and Arnie Cox.
This commission has really been busy the
past six months working on legislative is-
sues and developing a brochure to send out
to attract businesses to our City. This
work should be completed in April.
The commission members have been working
very closely with the City Council on the
extension of sewer and water to the Com-
mercial and Industrial zoned areas of
Ramsey.
We are also forming a new Economic Deve-
lopment Corporation which will sell Stock
to raise money to help businesses get a
start and help finance businesses which
will help to attract them to Ramsey.

reeds to make a commitment to attend one
meeting per month on the second Thursday at
9:30 a.m. and one evening per month. We need
in particular a public Ihealthl nurse or a
registered nurse - this need is to meet a
requirement in the State Law. However, others
who may be interested should also contact me
at the numbers and address listed below.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank Mrs. Margaret (Peg) Tarnowski who has
served so well and faithfully on this Board
for the past 13 years. The Tarnowski family
are new residents to the City of Ramsey, they
formerly lived in the City of Anoka. At this
time Peg has other commitments that do not
allow her to continue on the Board. My thanks
Peg and I am 'certain, the thanks of the re-
sidents of Anoka County.
See you next month,
