"Twas the night before Christmas and
all through .the house, not a creature was stirring, except the burglar."
My apologies to the author of that Christmas classic, but let's face it;
this time of the year is .tgood-peeking" for a few persons in our society.
Homes are loaded wi th Christmas presents and famili&sare busy running
here and there; visiUng, playing, attending outside functions and just
plain having tun. After Christmas, the tree comes down, ki ds go back to
school and MOm and Dad go back to work, leaving the house empty of people
and tullof valuables. Well, maybe we can prevent some of those home burg-
laries this year by practicing a little watchfulness in the neighborhoOds.
Now, I don't mean that we should all become paranoid or that we should spy
on our neighbor's in Orwellian "1984" fashion, but we should be concerned.
To those who are home during the daytime, we ask that you watch tor cars
cruising around the neighborhood or parked in "out of the way" spots.
Keep.aneye on your neighbor'S house when you know they both work and the
kids are in school. Let the police know ot a car parked in their driveway
when there .was none there that morning. If the person is therelegiti-
mately, they won't mind the police stopping by nor, I am sure, will your
neighbor. If someone comes to your door and when you answer it, he pro-
fesses to be looking for some other person or address, notify the police
and give a description of the car and license number, if possible. If
that person is really looking tor an address, he will welcome a squad to
direct him. On the other hand, if he was only knocking on your door to
see if anyone was home, that squad will be an unwelcome sight to him and
you will have your neighbor and yourself. Talk some of these things over
with your neighbors and maybe you can come up with other ideas. Remember,
its nice to live in a semi-rural setting such as Ramsey has, but there
are certain hazards and isolation is one of them. I guess self-help and ..
neighborliness is nearly as important .now as it was 100 years ago on the
Minnesota.prairies.

Beginning. in the latter part of January, Ramsey Police are going to be gin
an ongoing program of First Aidtamiliarization for all citizens, age 14
and older. This course will be held monthly, )- 2 hour sessions, and
upon completion a certificate will be issued. The course wi11 cover three
major areas; bleeding, breathing and poisoning. AFter completing the
First Aid familiarization course, those who are interested will be invited
to attend one further) hour session concerning the responsibilities and
