8 SANDBURG COMMUNITY SCHOOL NEWS Winter Program Update As your new Community School Program Coordinator at Sandburg Middle School, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and extend a warm "hello" to everyone in our Sandburg family. I am very excited to be joining the staff here and look forward to meeting and working together with all of you. I am delighted to announce that after a few months in transition, the Community School Program at Sandburg is now back in full swing, with a wide variety of classes and activities for students to choose from. The response I have received from the winter brochure of class offerings has been just great; over 200 registrations in the first week alone!! This proves that there is a real "want" and "need" for quality after school programs and I am committed to providing just that. I am also in the process of planning a number of special events and outings for this winter and early spring. Look for special sign- up flyers as these events are announced: Snow tubing at Echo Backen Talent show Swimming party at FMJH Bowling tourney Student Council activity nights Many more events and special programs are also being planned at the Ramsey Central Park Center. A flyer with all the information will be coming soon. Watch for it! I am truly looking forward to serving as your Community School Coordinator and hope that you will continue to be supportive and involved in the school program as well as the many community-wide programs that are available to us. Your ideas and input are of great value to me when planning a program so please feel free to call me at the Sandburg Community School Office (422-5223) between the hours of 11 :00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Berg (right) presents an award of recognition to David Bawden of the Ramsey Lions Club for the Lions Club's support of Anoka County educational and civic programs over the past years. RAMSEY LIONS CLUB RECOGNIZED Anoka County Commissioner Dennis D. Berg presented an award of recognition to the Ramsey Lions Club for their organization's numerous sponsorships of Anoka County educational events and for their many contributions to civic programs during the last several years. The ceremony took place at the January 14, 1992 County Board meeting. In introducing David T. Bawden, representative of the Ramsey Lions Club, Commissioner Berg expressed his appreciation of the Lions Club's valuable efforts and donations. "I am extremely proud of the leadership and generosity the Ramsey Lions Club has shown in supporting education," Commissioner Berg said. "Your work has touched the lives of many Anoka County elementary students." 0 Most recently the Ramsey Lions Club, in conjunction with the Coon Rapids Lions Club, sponsored the History of Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Labs, a program developed by the Anoka County Parks Department. Last spring over 3,900 Anoka County elementary students participated in one-day field trips to the Anoka County Bunker Hills Group Camp where they attended "labs" depicting life in Minnesota during the times of the French Voyageurs. The children were able to experience first-hand, through dramatizations performed by the County Parks staff, such topics as fashions, food, fur trading, crafts and transportation.
