8

SWCD
FILING
OPEN IN
DISTRICT II

Worried about wetland legislation? Concerned abOut
the water quality in Anoka County? You CAN make a
difference by filing before September 8 to run as a Soil
and Water Conservation District (S WCD) supervisor in
the November election. Running for SWCD supervisor
is an excellent way to make an impact on our natural
resources.
Although the supervisors are nominated from
different nominating areas within each SWCD, they are
elected at-large, meaning that every eligible voter in the
district may vote for all open supervisor positions. Because
the supervisors serve staggered six-year terms, each
district has one or more positions open. Anoka SWCD
has one opening in District II serving Ramsey, Andover,
and the City of Anoka.
Supervisors meet monthly to discuss the business of
the SWCD, including state grant allocations to
landowners, district conservation priorities,
coordination with state agencies and other local units of
government, and personnel issues. In addition,
supervisors are community leaders in resource
management, providing guidance and information to
their friends and neighbors.
Supervisors do not receive a regular salary, although
they do receive compensation for attending meetings and
functions and are reimbursed for expenses.
For further information, contact the Anoka
Conservation District at (612) 757-4221.

WOMEN OF TODAY
COMING TO RAMSEY

The Women of Today are a community, service and leadership training
organization. Their creed states that they offer service--to the community,
growth--through personal enrichment, and fellowship with other women with
similar interests.
The Women of Today are in the process of forming a chapter in Ramsey.
Organizational meetings will be held at LeTourneau's Super Valu on August
25th, September 13th, and September 29th at 7:30 p.m. You can also visit with
them Septem ber 22 - 24 at LeTourneau's refreshmen t ten 1. Spec ial thanks to Rum
River Golf Course and LeTourneau's for allowing meeting space.
If you would like more information, please contact Nancy at 427-2285,
Cathy at 754-1171, or Pam at 757-0617.

FREE FERTILIZER
NO WAITING

When you bag your grass clippings all summer, you rob your lawn of as much
as one pound of valuable nitrogen for every 1,000 square feet. Save the cost of
extra fertilizer by leaving those clippings on the lawn instead. For other helpful
information, call the Metro Recycling Hot Line at The Conncction,@ 922-9000.

RAMSEY SENIOR NEWS

The County Fair is a thing of the past and the summer gardens are past their
peak. Most of the flowers are still beautiful, but summer is definitely on the wane.
How can that be? Seems that spring was just yesterday.
Our first meeting of the fall season is on September 7, and we are really
privileged to have Jan Bruder from Minneapolis who lived in Scotland for almost
a year. She will demonstrate how to play the Chanter, an instrument usually
learned before playing the bagpipe. Also she will dress authentically and show
some slides. She is a very interesting lady. Do plan to come. Visitors are always
welcome. See you then.

Bertha Mae Johnston, President 421-3732

CITY OF RAMSEY:

r
Ramsey Resident
Ramsey Municipal Center
15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W.
Ramsey,.
