8

RAMSEY SENIOR NEWS

It was a cold, blustery day for our February meeting,
but we had a goodly number in attendance. We seniors
are a hardy bunch. Pat Hackman, from theAnoka County
Red Cross, aud a volunteer, Howie Haeg, presented a
program of what to do "Til Help Arrives." It was very
informative, and as someone later commented, "we need
to know those things."
We had a sad occasion in late January -- we lost an
old time member, Lowell Beckenbach. He has been our
liaison between our club and the Ramsey Lions, of which
he has been a long time member also. He has done so
much for our club and will be sorely missed.
Next month on March 2 we will have Betty Vielguth
with us. She and her late husband spent some time in Iran.
She will show slides and artifacts from there. Do come
and join us at noon for our pot luck meal and program.
See you then.

Bertha Mae Johnston, President: 421-3732

RAMSEY CITY CODE
LEASH ORDINANCE

There have been numerous complaints from resi-
dents in the last several months regarding dogs that are
not on leashes. Ramsey City Code states that no person
shall allow any animals of any type to run at large.
Additionally, every owner or keeper of a dog shall have
the dog under the control and in custody of a person of
sufficient age to adequately control the dog at all times
while the dog is off the premises of the owner. "Control"
and "custody" means on a leash of not more than 6 feet in
length. It is legal to have a dog in an automobile without
a leash, but it must be on a leash if taken out of the vehicle.
Violation of the leash ordinance is a misdemeanor.

Annual Report Continued From Page 7

(12%). This increase in environmental awareness was furthered by the City
inspecting 28 properties in conjunction with the oak wilt suppression program.
Of the 28 properties inspected, 21 were found to have disease infestation. The
following breakdown indicates the actions taken:

14 Had control work completed
6 Property owner declined treatment
1 Property owner was encouraged to remove trees
7 Properties had no disease present

In 1994, the City will be reviewing the delivery system for solid waste and
recycling and looking for more efficient ways to provide environmental services.
In November 1993, the Council adopted its 1994-2000 Capital
Improvements Program and 1994 Work Plan. Included was operational
planning over the next five years. The City has also published a Residential
Activity Forecast, which projects the amount and direction of housing
construction to the year 2000. Finally, the City capitalized an Economic
Development Authority in 1993, charged to assist Ramsey businesses with
growth imd expansion.

Summary
The above is intended to be representative of 1993 activities of the City of
Ramsey providing you and your neighbors with local governmental services.
The City Council, administration and staff has as its primary mission " . . .
governance which is fiscally stable and provides services at levels and in a
manner desired by the citizens." As such, we welcome your input or questions
regarding the above or any other issue which needs discussion, improvement or
change. Please contact a member of the City Councilor staff with any
suggestions.
