8 CHILD CARE ASSIST AlCE PROGRAM Anoka County AFDC clients are eligible for help with child care expenses under a new program announced by the Anoka County Job Training Center. Called ACCESS -- Access to Child Care for Education Support and Success -- the program seeks to curb long-term dependence on welfare by making it easier for AFDC clients to acquire the tools necessary for self-sufficiency. ACCESS pays for child care for clients enrolled in an approved GED, high school or post-secondary educational program, or for those clients who have developed an acceptable job search strategy and are looking for work. ACCESS is similar to another program in Anoka County known as STRIDE - Success Through Reaching Individualized Development and Employment - which targets a wide range of clients who may have been on AFDC a total of 36 of the last 60 months; or are under 24 years old with no high school diploma or GED; or are under 24 years old with little or no work experience. AFDC clients not eligible for or required to participate in STRIDE are eligible for the ACCESS program. For more information about ACCESS, call the Anoka County Job Training Center at 783-4830.
