Jim Norman - Location of Ramsey Station
From: "Terry Hendriksen" <Terry@winternet.com>
To: <bob.mazanec @metc.state.mn.us>
Date: 5/2/01 11:29AM
Subject: Location of Ramsey Station
Bob,
I have received a copy of your letter dated April 13, 2001 concerning the
Ramsey station. I view your interest as positive and I remain hopeful that a
compromise can be achieved. The problem with locating the station in section
28 (between Ramsey and Armstrong Blvds.) is that it requires 100 acres of
Mixed use around it.
Section 28 is the only significant remaining commercial industrial area in
Ramsey. If you want the station located in the middle of 28 and will accept
land use that doesn't include residential development I believe that can be
accommodated. The alternative would be to locate the station west of
Armstrong blvd. and designate the surrounding area as mixed use since there
is a willingness to re- designate a large portion of that area to residential
or mixed use.
I remain optimistic about the potential of a compromise that creates a
win -win scenario. To achieve this 1 recommend a high level meeting to
discuss this one issue. Natalie Has - Steffen has told us there is no way the
station can be relocated West of Armstrong. Perhaps we need to get more
senior people in a room to see if there is a desire to work these things
out. We simply need more flexibility on the site location. This could be a
great project with freeway access from both sides of the river, easy access
to highway 10 and the city center surrounding the rail hub. If that kind of
a demonstration project appeals to everyone let's find a way to make it
work.
Terry
CC: "'Sandra Pine!
