language within the post -employment healthcare savings plan. <br />Employee: An individual who has successfully completed all stages of the selection process, <br />including the probation period. <br />Exempt Employee: Any employee excluded from overtime and compensatory time off <br />provisions under the Minnesota and Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). <br />FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act): FICA is the federal requirement that a certain <br />amount be automatically withheld from employees' earnings. Specifically, FICA requires an <br />employee to contribute a percentage for Social Security and Medicare. The City contributes a <br />matching percentage on behalf of each employee. Certain employees are exempt or partially <br />exempt from these withholdings (e.g., police officers). <br />Fiscal Year: The period from January 1 to December 31. <br />Full -Time Employee: Employees required to work forty (40) or more hours per week, year- <br />round, in an ongoing position. In accordance with federal health care reform laws, the City offers <br />health insurance benefits to eligible employees and their dependents that work on average or are <br />expected to work 30 or more hours per week or the equivalent of 130 hours or more per month. <br />To comply with health care reform laws, while avoiding penalties, part-time employees will be <br />scheduled according to business needs in a manner that maintains their intended part-time status. <br />Hours of Operation: City Hall's hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. <br />to 4:30 p.m. <br />In Good Standing: City employees may resign at any time, for any reason. To be considered "in <br />good standing" upon resignation, an employee must submit a written notice to their Department <br />Head, at least 14 days before the resignation date. Department Heads wishing to resign "in good <br />standing" should provide as much notice as possible, with a minimum of 30 days. Failure to <br />comply with the 14-day or 30-day notice requirement may result in denial of future City <br />employment and sick leave termination benefits. <br />Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave <br />Leave (MN PFML): A state -run program that provides partial wage replacement and iob <br />protection for eligible employees during maior life events. <br />Non -Exempt Employee: Employees covered by the federal or state Fair Labor Standards Act <br />(FLSA). Non-exempt employees are generally eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time off <br />at 1.5 times their regular hourly wage for all hours worked over forty (40) in any given <br />workweek. <br />Part -Time Employee: Employees who are required to work less than forty (40) hours per week <br />year-round in an ongoing position.
