Project Description: Warehouse Remodel Bldg. 1 Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2026 <br /> <br />20 | Page <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />FIGURE 904.3(A) <br />SALES AND SERVICE COUNTERS <br />CROSS SECTION <br />FIGURE 904.3(B) <br />SALES AND SERVICE COUNTERS—ELEVATION <br /> <br />904.1General. <br />Accessible sales and service counters and windows shall comply with Section 904 as applicable. <br />Exception: Drive-up only sales or service counters and windows are not required to comply <br />with Section 904. <br />904.2Approach. <br />All portions of counters required to be accessible shall be located where transactions or services <br />are customarily provided and be adjacent to a walking surface complying with Section 403. <br />904.3Sales and service counters and windows. <br />Sales and service counters and windows shall comply with Section 904.3.1 and either Section <br />904.3.2 or 904.3.3. Where counters are provided, the accessible portion of the countertop shall <br />extend the same depth as the public portion of the sales and service countertop provided for <br />standing customers. <br />Exception: In alterations, when the provision of a counter complying with this section would <br />result in a reduction of the number of existing counters at work stations or a reduction of the <br />number of existing mail boxes, the counter shall be permitted to have a portion which is 24 inches <br />(610 mm) minimum in length complying with Section 904.3.2, provided that the required clear <br />floor space is centered on the accessible length of the counter. <br />904.3.1Vertical barriers. <br />At service windows or service counters, any vertical barrier between service personnel and <br />customers shall be at a height of 43 inches (1090 mm) maximum above the floor.
