<br />Motion by Councilmember Olson, seconded by Chairperson Elvig, to approve the October 17, <br />2006 Public Works Committee meeting minutes as presented. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Absent: C<;mnciImember Cook. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: <br /> <br />Consider Traffic Control Changes on Alpine Drive at CSAH 83 and CSAH <br />56 <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski stated included in the packet are figures illustrating the suggested <br />signage changes to the intersections of the Alpine Drive/CSAH 83 and Alpine Drive/CSAH 56 <br />recommended by Anoka Highway Department. The primary changes associated with this new <br />traffic control plan for these two intersections include the following: <br /> <br />(a) Placing a double set of STOP signs on the City street approaches; with a standard 36 <br />inch sign on the left side and ,an oversizedA8 inch sign on the right; and including Cross <br />Traffic Does Not Stop tags beneath the STOP signs. <br /> <br />(b) Installing a double set of symbol style STOP AHEAD signs on both sides of the City <br />stre~t approaches. In the case of eastbound Alpine boulevard approaching Ramsey <br />Boulevard this will be a replacement of a word style STOP AHEAD sign. These STOP <br />AHEAD signs will be placed at the approach distances recommended in the Uniform <br />Manual on Traffic Control Devices in Minnesota. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski advised Anoka County indicated that the changes described in (a) <br />above were to be made by the County Highway Department during the week of November 7, <br />200~. The changes recommended in portion (b) above would be the responsibility of the City. <br />Mr. Jankowski advised staff is recommending that the City proceed with the installation of the <br />recommended signage changes to the intersections of Alpine Boulevard and CSAH 83 and <br />Alpine Boulevard and CSAH 56 at an estimated cost of$1200. '. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson noted the signs are being made by staff. He explained the STOP <br />AHEAD signs located on Alpine Drive and CR 5 were changed at the request of the County to <br />ensure that it was done quickly. The County wanted to shore up the look and feel all the way <br />, down Alpine Drive to keep a handle on the accidents. Mr. Olson advised it is crucial to move <br />forward with this as quickly as possible. <br /> <br />Chairperson Elvig inquired about the possibility of installing lighting such as flashers. <br /> <br />Public Works Supervisor Reimer explained the stop signs were enlarged and are already in place. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilri1ember Olson, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to recommend to City <br />Council that staff be directed to proceed with the installation of the recommended signage <br />changes to the intersections of Alpine Boulevard and CSAH 83 and Alpine Boulevard and <br />CSAH 56at an estimated cost of$1200 with the cost of the signage to be from the Public Works <br />. sign account. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee / November 21,2006 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br />
