at night; none of the neighbors all the way up and down Waco Street from Alpine Drive to 142nd •
Lane have their lights on at night.
Chairperson Elvig noted usually residents express concern about too much light being spread
into the yards. Fie asked if the neighborhood is more concerned about the aesthetics of the light.
Mr. Hess replied the illumination onto the yard from the traditionaire light would not be boring
down on his front window. He- is looking at the aesthetics and the light. Once the luminaire
light is installed it is a pretty safe bet it will stay there. Everyone up and down the block feels
pretty much the same way about installing the traditionaire style light.
Chairperson Elvig asked if there are performance issues to consider.'
City Engineer Jankowski replied in view of the fact that the priority lights are generally used on
high speed roads, the Committee could easily justify the little bit less of illumination from the
traditionaire style light due .to the fact that the speed limit there is 30 mph, it is an all-stop
condition, and most of the movements are turning movements at the intersection.
Mr. Hess stated Jennifer at Connexus Energy informed him she would recommend the
traditionaire style light for a neighborhood installation.
Public Works Director Olson explained this light installation was discussed under the Priority
Streetlight Fund. Jennifer Sweeny of Connexus would likely recommend the traditionaire style
light because she works with subdivision lighting. Staff does not feel strongly about which type
of light should be installed at his intersection.. Staff feels the traditionaire style light would offer
.enough light for this intersection; it would not be a safety issue. Staff wanted to be certain the
Committee is aware the traditionaire style light is- different than what has been used from this
fund previously.
Chairperson Elvig asked if there is a price difference in the styles of lighting.
City Engineer Jankowski replied-the cost is almost a draw between the two styles of lighting.
Consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to proceed with the traditionaire style streetlight
at the intersection of 142 Avenue and Waco Street as requested by the neighborhood.
APPROVE AGENDA
Motion by Chairperson Elvig, seconded by Councilmember.
