This position is a four -year term and
usually requires one to three meetings monthly. The
filling period is open between July 15th through July
18th• Interested parties can call Anoka County
Elections office at 763- 323 -5275 for filing
information. There is a $20.00 filing fee and each
applicant will receive a filing packet with election
regulations.
People concerned with resources
management in Anoka County may want to file.
Chairman Kim Kovich encourages all those
interested to file and become a part of a special
purpose local unit of government that manages and
directs a number of popular resource programs,
including the state Cost -Share Program. An elected
five- member board governs each of Minnesota's
91 SWCDs.
Although the supervisors are elected
at -large — meaning that every eligible voter in the
district may vote for all open supervisor positions —
they are nominated from one of five districts within
the County. An individual must live in a nominating
district with an open supervisor position in order to
run. Supervisors do not participate in primary
elections.
For more information contact the
conservation district at 763- 434 -2030.
HEAR YE! The Mayor's
Regional Housing Task Force has broad geographic representation.
It is charged with developing an "action agenda" for maintaining and
increasing the supply of affordable housing in the Twin Cities
metropolitan area, including legislative recommendations for 2001.
The task force co- chairs are Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles
Belton and Lakeville Mayor Duane Zaun. Other members include:
Karen Anderson, Minnetonka
Grace Arbogast, Brooklyn Park
Robert Burlingame, Maple Grove
Cathy Busho, Rosemount
W. Peter Enck, New Hope
Tom Gamec, Ramsey
Nancy Mancino, Chanhassen
"I'm thrilled with the makeup of the task force," said Council
Chair Ted Mondale. "Its members are movers and shakers who can
make things happen at the local level. I feel confident, with their
participation, we'll see real progress on this important issue; an issue
at the very heart of the region's ability to thrive and remain economically
competitive."
Council officials and other partners on this issue say the region
faces a critical shortage of affordable housing. If not addressed, they
concur, the region's economy and quality of life will suffer, and the
social costs associated with families in distress will climb.
The task force will meet four to six time this year and propose
policy, programs and legislative initiatives to achieve local and regional
affordable housing goals.
•
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
NAMES METRO MAYORS
TO TASK FORCE ON
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
BETTER KID CARE
The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it. — Anonymous
Dr. Jean Harris, Eden Prairie
Elizabeth Kautz, Burnsville
Jay Kimble, Stillwater
William Hargis, Woodbury
Sandy Martin, Shoreview
Thomas Ryan, Blaine
Jo Tierney, Plymouth
Taking a new look at dramatic play is the topic of the next
"Better Kid Care" satellite training to be held on Thursday, June 1,
2000, 6:15 — 7:45 p.m. at the Bunker Hills Activities Center in Andover.
Cost is $3 per person and includes printed materials.
