ANOKA COUNTY HOUSEHOLD <br />HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION <br />TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 23, 2000 <br />Anoka County is sponsoring a free household hazardous waste collection for county residents on <br />September 23, 2000 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The event will be held at the East Bethel Ice Arena, 20675 <br />Highway #65, East Bethel. If you have any questions, please call 753- 323 -5730. <br />The household hazardous waste collection allows residents to safely dispose of leftover or un- <br />wanted household chemicals at NO CHARGE. <br />Household hazardous wastes that will be collected include: <br />Automotive: <br />Gasoline, kerosene and other fuels. Carburetor cleaner <br />Petroleum based waxes and finishes <br />Used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze <br />Household Products: <br />Aerosols (but not if they're empty) <br />Concrete cleaner (acid) <br />Drain and oven cleaner <br />Mothballs <br />Nail polish remover <br />Other: <br />Mercury <br />Corrosive / Cause Burns <br />Flammable / Combustible <br />Toxic / Poisonous <br />• Business Waste <br />■ Ammunition or Explosives <br />• Appliances <br />, <br />And Products that are (check the label for these words): <br />Lawn & Garden Chemicals: <br />Ant, bug, roach and rodent killer <br />Pool chemicals <br />Charcoal lighter fluid <br />Weed killer <br />Bug Spray <br />Home Improvement Products: <br />Driveway sealer <br />Liquid paint* (oil -base and larger quantities of latex) <br />Paint stripper <br />Paint thinner, turpentine <br />Petroleum based adhesives* <br />Roofing tar <br />Wood preservatives <br />* Whenever possible, dry out small quantities of latex paint and latex adhesives and put them in your <br />garbage. <br />Do Not Bring The Following Items To the Anoka County Hazardous Waste Collection: <br />• Batteries <br />• Empty Containers or Dried Paint <br />■ Farm- related Pesticides <br />Disposing of household hazardous waste at county- sponsored collections protects the public health <br />and the environment. When dispose of improperly -in the trash, down the drain or on the ground- hazardous <br />wastes can contribute to the contamination of ground water, lakes, streams and soils. Some household <br />hazardous wastes can harm garbage haulers or cause damage to property through accidental contact. <br />Anoka County also provides a year -round household hazardous waste facility in Blaine. The facility <br />is located at 3230 101st Avenue NE, Blaine. The HHW facility is open on Wednesdays from 2 - 8 p.m., <br />Fridays (April - October only) 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. <br />The Anoka County Board of Commissioners sponsors household hazardous waste collections in <br />cooperation with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. <br />
