Look no further than your own backyard! The City of Ramsey will be working with Anoka County and the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board on a pilot backyard composting project. Vegetable and fruit scraps, leaves, acorns, grass clippings, old flowers, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, and soft plant material can be added to your compost bin. Through composting, residents can remove over 500 pounds of organic matter from the waste stream and return these materials to a useable humus product. The benefits ofbackyard composting are numerous. By composting, residents are able to lower their disposal costs through reducing the volume of garbage; promotes water conservation and lower waterbills through reducing the use of garbage disposals and reduced need to water gardens; provides a wonderful resource for soil amendments; reduces the need for fertilizer; and reduces the need for land disposal. This class is taught by a certified instructor. The objective is to make you more comfortable on the road, ensuring your travel is pleasurable and safe by updating your driving techniques. No written or behind the wheel tests required. Registration for Senior Driver Improvement Class is advised.
