14 NEWS AIA The British came and went! RYAA /NLS held their second annual British Soccer Camp in conjunction with Challenger Sports' British Soccer Division during the week of June l l th through June 15th, 2001. This year's camp was almost double the size of last year, and it was about ten times more fun. With the help of Ryan Hodgeson (England), Bernie Mungeam (England), Jim Scallon (England), Dave McCroskrie (Scotland) and 011y Twelvetrees (Wales), all of the camp participants had an absolute blast. They improved in all areas like passing, receiving, dribbling and shooting while they became more tactically as well as technically aware in a game situation. The player improvement during just one -week of camp was amazing to a lot of parents as well as coaches. NLS has signed a contract for three more years of British Soccer Camps. RYAA /Northern Lights Traveling Soccer News What a success! For a very young club, the news is sure traveling fast. NLS had three new U10 teams sign up this year, two boy's teams and one girl's team. All of the teams were successful at building team spirit while they improved their individual and team skills. Our U11 Classic 2 boys team brought home a 1" place trophy from the North Metro Shootout Tournament in St. Francis and a Bronze medal from the Star of the North Games in Rochester. Currently in fourth place in the district, our U 11 team is climbing the ranks quickly and is looking forward to the district playoffs. Meanwhile our U13 boy's team has made a dramatic turnaround since last season, currently in third place in the district they are confident they will be in the top two finishers in the district playoff and get seeded in the state tournament. For the fall season, NLS will be offering traveling soccer on a coach to coach basis. What this means is if there is a coach that wants to put together a team, he or she may be recruiting players, otherwise there will be no public registrations. Coaches are also needed; advanced training through state certified teachers will be available for every coach. NLS Traveling Soccer — Player Assessment /Team Assignments If you are planning to play traveling soccer next summer, we will be holding player assessment clinics during the August and September timeframe. All players must attend these clinics in order to be placed on an appropriate team As you grow older; you stand for more and fall for less. — Anonymous that will best match your skills. There will be a nominal fee for this that will be credited towards your registration fee for next season. Look for the Rec -Plus program to continue but only at the U12 -U14 age groups. U10 will be brought back and combined with the recreational soccer program. Also, the Rec -Plus program will continue to be administered by the Traveling Soccer program, which will give the Rec -Plus players a better opportunity to be guest players on traveling teams for games and tournaments. Another benefit to this change is the Rec- Plus teams will be able to play in MYSA sanctioned tournaments. ATTENTION: BASKETBALL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER The RYAA Fall Girls Basketball Program is getting organized and we need you, Mom, Dad, Big Sister, Big Brother, to help coach. If you are interested in being a coach or an assistant coach to help our young ladies learn the game of basketball with a positive outlook on sports. We need you! ! ! Times are changing and parent involvement is more important now than ever in your child's interests. Help her learn the game and have fun with her peers in a positive way. The season will start mid October 2001 and run until end of December. All games would be played in Ramsey.
