14 <br />NEWS <br />AIA <br />The British came and went! <br />RYAA /NLS held their second annual British Soccer <br />Camp in conjunction with Challenger Sports' British Soccer <br />Division during the week of June l l th through June 15th, 2001. <br />This year's camp was almost double the size of last year, <br />and it was about ten times more fun. With the help of Ryan <br />Hodgeson (England), Bernie Mungeam (England), Jim Scallon <br />(England), Dave McCroskrie (Scotland) and 011y <br />Twelvetrees (Wales), all of the camp participants had an <br />absolute blast. They improved in all areas like passing, <br />receiving, dribbling and shooting while they became more <br />tactically as well as technically aware in a game situation. <br />The player improvement during just one -week of camp was <br />amazing to a lot of parents as well as coaches. NLS has <br />signed a contract for three more years of British Soccer <br />Camps. Look for information in future Ramsey Resident <br />publications, your kids' backpacks or visit our website at <br />http: / /www.ryaa.org for more information on next year's <br />camp. <br />RYAA /Northern Lights Traveling Soccer News <br />What a success! For a very young club, the news is <br />sure traveling fast. NLS had three new U10 teams sign up <br />this year, two boy's teams and one girl's team. All of the <br />teams were successful at building team spirit while they <br />improved their individual and team skills. Our U11 Classic 2 <br />boys team brought home a 1" place trophy from the North <br />Metro Shootout Tournament in St. Francis and a Bronze medal <br />from the Star of the North Games in Rochester. Currently <br />in fourth place in the district, our U 11 team is climbing the <br />ranks quickly and is looking forward to the district playoffs. <br />Meanwhile our U13 boy's team has made a dramatic <br />turnaround since last season, currently in third place in the <br />district they are confident they will be in the top two finishers <br />in the district playoff and get seeded in the state tournament. <br />For the fall season, NLS will be offering traveling soccer on <br />a coach to coach basis. What this means is if there is a <br />coach that wants to put together a team, he or she may be <br />recruiting players, otherwise there will be no public <br />registrations. Coaches are also needed; advanced training <br />through state certified teachers will be available for every <br />coach. All players must attend <br />these clinics in order to be placed on an appropriate team <br />As you grow older; you stand for more and fall for less. — Anonymous <br />that will best match your skills. There will be a nominal fee <br />for this that will be credited towards your registration fee for <br />next season. Look for the <br />Rec -Plus program to continue but only at the U12 -U14 age <br />groups. U10 will be brought back and combined with the <br />recreational soccer program. Also, the Rec -Plus program <br />will continue to be administered by the Traveling Soccer <br />program, which will give the Rec -Plus players a better <br />opportunity to be guest players on traveling teams for games <br />and tournaments. Another benefit to this change is the Rec- <br />Plus teams will be able to play in MYSA sanctioned <br />tournaments. We need you! ! ! Times are <br />changing and parent involvement is more important now than <br />ever in your child's interests. Help her learn the game and <br />have fun with her peers in a positive way. <br />The season will start mid October 2001 and run until <br />end of December.
