6
CAN YOU SPARE 5
MINUTES A MONTH?
Siren, Wisconsin was destroyed by a devastating storm within
minutes because their civil defense siren was inoperable. An early
warning system for impeding danger, the emergency sirens can notify
residents of severe weather conditions, allowing time to seek shelter.
We are looking for volunteers to observe the civil defense
sirens at many of our 17 siren locations. Five minutes of your time
each month is all it will take to ensure your neighborhood has an
operating siren. If you are home on the first Wednesday of each month
at 1:00 p.m. you could assist us. Please contact Joleen Wiemann at
the Ramsey Police Department at (763) 427 -6812 for more
information about becoming an Emergency Siren Observer.
MN AGRICULTURAL
PROPERTY TAX LAW
THE "GREEN ACRES LAW''
The Minnesota Agricultural Property Tax Law, commonly
known as the Green Acres Law, provided for deferment of assessment
and taxes payable on farm land whose valuations have been increased
by assessors to reflect prices in excess of farm land values due to
potential residential or commercial land requirements. The law states
that certain property owners, who are engaged in agricultural pursuits,
can apply for deferment of higher valuations and consequent taxes
payable, including special assessments, and continue to have the
property valued based upon its valuation for farm purposes.
Who is Eligible? The following are the requirements for green
acres that are dedicated by state law:
• The parcel must be at least 10 acres in size.
• The assessor must classify the property as agricultural.
• The property must be individually owned or owned by a family
farm corporation or partnership. Property owned by any other
type of corporation or company is not eligible for green acres.
• You need to produce income of $300 plus $10 per tillable acre on
the property you apply for, or 1/3 of your family income must be
farm related.
• The property needs to be either homestead, or ifnon- homestead,
you or your immediate family must have owned the property for
at least seven years.
• You must complete a green acre application form, available from
your County Assessor.
Every chance taken is one less that you'll regret not taking later on.
ANOKA CONSERVATION
DISTRICT
Vici Ness was honored for her 10 years
of service to Anoka Conservation District at the
March Board Meeting.
