Each year Anoka
Conservation District recognizes an Anoka
County resident, business or organization that has
gone out of its way to preserve, protect or enhance
Anoka County natural resources. This
recognition program is not limited to Anoka
County as the winner competes against winners
from all of the counties in the state. In 2001,
Anoka County Parks won at the county level and
went on to be picked as the Area IV winner.
To nominate someone for this honor
simply call the Anoka Conservation District at
763 - 434 -2030, and provide the individuals name,
phone number and address and some of the
reasons you think they are deserving of this
recognition. The nominee must be from Anoka
County. We'll conduct a brief interview with the
nominees and the ACD Board of Supervisors will
select the winner.
Nominations are due by July 15th. Along
with the title and recognition of Outstanding
Conservationist a small token of our appreciation
is provided by ACD.
VOICE MAIL AVAILABLE
AFTER HOURS AT CITY HALL
SOIL AND WATER
CONSERVATION DISTRICT
SUPERVISOR POSITION OPEN
The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you are in the bathroom. — Anonymous
7
The City of Ramsey's voice mail system allows residents the
opportunity to leave a message at City Hall during non - business hours
by calling 427 -1410 before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. If you choose to
leave a message, your call will be returned the following business day.
This number should not be used for emergencies.
Two Anoka Conservation District Supervisors positions will
be on the November 5, 2002 ballot. This position is a four -year term
and usually requires one to three meetings monthly. The filing period
is open July 2 through July 16th. Interested parties can call Anoka
County Elections office at 763-323-5275 for filing information. There
is a $20.00 filing fee and each applicant will receive a filing packet
with election regulations.
People interested in influencing natural resources issues at the
local level are encouraged to file. Chairman Kim Kovich encourages
all those interested to file. "Serving as an SWCD supervisor is not
only a meaningful way to influence the environment, it is a great way to
get involved in local government ", says Mr. Kovich. An elected
five- member board governs each of Minnesota's 91 SWCDs.
SWCD supervisors have three main responsibilities during
their four -year term. They set overall policy and long -term objectives
for their districts, develop their district's annual and comprehensive
plans, and work with SWCD staff to see that policies and plans are
implemented. They are not paid a salary; however, they do receive
compensation for attending meetings and are reimbursed for expenses.
Although the supervisors are elected at -large — meaning that
every eligible voter in the district may vote for all open supervisor
positions — they are nominated from one of five districts within the
County. An individual must live in a nominating district with an open
supervisor position in order to run. The open positions are in District
Three (Coon Rapids, Spring Lake Park, Fridley, Hilltop, Columbia
Heights) and District Four (Ham Lake, Blaine, Lino Lakes, Circle
Pines, Centerville, Lexington). Supervisors do not participate in
primary elections but the positions are filled through general elections
on November 5th. For more information contact the Anoka
Conservation District at 763 - 434 -2030.
