MEE
iiw:m'ii000000000
GRAND OPENING
The public is invited to Anoka- Hennepin Independent School
District's Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP) building's
grand opening on Thursday, September 26th, from 2:30 — 5:30 p.m. A
formal dedication and ribbon - cutting event will take place at 3 :00 p.m.
Construction ofthe STEP facility, located on Anoka- Hennepin
Technical College's campus, should be completed and classes started
in September 2002. This construction symbolized the partnership
between K -12 and undergraduate technical education - -11 and 12th
grade students will complete their high school diploma and be given
technical college credits. While this collaboration is not a new concept
for those involved, it certainly formalizes the partnership and increases
the college's capacity to give high school students applied experiences.
September 26th also marks the day that Anoka- Hennepin
Technical College (AHTC) will be hosting an open house for the public,
showcasing recent building renovations. Refreshments, tour and
entertainment are planned.
Plan to attend the September events. Both are located at the
college campus in Anoka — directly off Highway #10, just west of the
Vineyard Restaurant. For more information or directions, call 763-
576 -4700.
HEAD START
Head Start is looking for children for Fall preschool programs.
Head Start continues to be a free comprehensive preschool program
for lower income families in our community. For an application or for
more information, please call 763 - 783 -4300, TTY: 763 - 783 -4724.
VOICE MAIL AVAILABLE
AFTER HOURS AT CITY HALL
The City of Ramsey's voice mail system allows residents the
opportunity to leave a message at City Hall during non - business hours by
calling 427 -1410 before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. If you choose to
leave a message, your call will be returned the following business day.
This number should not be used for emergencies.
When all else fails, read the instructions. — Anonymous
COMMISSIONER
DENNIS BERG
NAMED CHAIR OF AMC
COMMITTEE
11
Anoka County Commissioner Dennis
Berg has been elected chair ofthe Transportation
Policy Committee of the Association of
Minnesota Counties (AMC), a statewide
organization that works to promote the interest
of Minnesota's 87 counties.
This is the second time Berg, who
represents District One in the northwest portion
ofAnoka County, will chair the Transportation
Policy Committee. With his election as chair,
Berg also becomes a member of the AMC's
Board of Directors.
As chair of the Transportation Policy
Committee, Berg will promote the interests and
concerns of Minnesota counties to the
Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/
DOT) and the state legislature in developing
funding goals and transportation strategies.
"Transportation is a critical issue statewide,"
Berg said. "Metro area highways are growing
increasingly congested and roads and bridges
throughout the state are falling into disrepair. It
is absolutely essential that counties work with
officials at the local, state, and federal level to
secure adequate funding to maintain our roads
and address the need for transportation
alternatives."
Berg also chairs the Anoka County
Public Works Committee, which is responsible
for highways and other transportation issues.
He also has served on several Mn /DOT
advisory committees and is often called to testify
before the state legislature on transportation
funding formulas.
