<br />13 <br /> <br />ANOKA COUNTY HOUSEHOLD <br />HAZARDOUS WASTE FACILITY <br /> <br />The household hazardous waste facility <br />allows residents to safely dispose of leftover or <br />unwanted household chemicals and other hazardous <br />materials. Household hazardous wastes that can be <br />brought to the facility include: <br /> <br />Automotive: <br /> <br />Gasoline, l<erosene and other fuels <br />Petroleum based waxes and finishes <br />Used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze <br /> <br />Household Products: <br /> <br />Aerosols (but not if they're empty) <br />Concrete cleaner (acid) <br />Drain and oven cleaner <br />Mercury fever thermometers <br />Mothballs <br />Nail polish remover <br /> <br />Lawn & Garden Chemicals: <br /> <br />Ant, bug, roach and rodent l<illers <br />Pool chemicals <br />Charcoal lighter fluid <br />Weed lcillers <br /> <br />Home Improvement Products: <br /> <br />Driveway sealer <br />Liquid paint* <br />(oil-base and larger quantities of latex) <br />Mercury thermostats <br />Paint stripper <br />Paint thinner, turpentine <br />Petroleum based adhesives* <br />Roofmg tar <br />Wood preservatives <br /> <br />Other: <br /> <br />Mercury <br />And Products that are <br />( checl< the label for these words): <br />Corrosive / Cause Burns <br />Flammable / Combustible <br />Toxic / Poisonous <br />* Whenever possible, dry out small quantities of <br />latex paint and latex adhesives and put them in your <br />garbage. <br /> <br />Do Not Bring The Following Items To the <br />Anoka County Hazardous Waste Facility: <br /> <br />s. Business Waste <br />s. Ammunition or Explosives <br />s. Appliances <br />S . Batteries <br />s. Empty Containers or Dried Paint <br />s. Farm-related Pesticides <br /> <br />When disposed of improperly-in the trash, down the <br />drain or on the ground-hazardous wastes can contribute to the <br />contamination of ground water, lal<es, streams and soils. Some <br />household hazardous wastes can harm garbage haulers or cause <br />damage to property through accidental contact. <br />The Anol<a County Household Hazardous Waste <br />facility provides year-round services. The facility is located at <br />3230 101 stAvenue NE, Blaine. The HHW facility is open on <br />Wednesdays from 2 - 8 p.m., Fridays (April- October only) <br />9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. For more <br />information, you can call (763) 323-5730. <br /> <br />RECREATIONAL FIRES <br />MUST BE 50' <br /> <br />FROM STRUCTURES <br /> <br /> <br />Be sure to follow the City's burning regulations if winter <br />inspires you to have a recreational fire. <br />A recreational fire is an area of no more than three <br />feet in diameter or nine square feet. It must be located at least <br />50 feet from any structure or vehicle. Burning barrels are <br />prohibited. <br />Use only dry, clean wood. Plywood, chipboard and <br />other products containing resins or glues are strictly prohibited. <br />Painted and preservative-treated wood scraps can give off toxic <br />smoke. Don't inhale! Running grass fires are prohibited, except <br />for prairie restoration. Burning leaves, grass and debris is also <br />prohibited. <br />Recreational burning is allowed only between the hours <br />of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Fires must be attended by an adult at all <br />times until completely extinquished. A garden hose connected <br />to water should be nearby. Violations can be subject to a citation, <br />including extinguishment charges of$250 per hour. <br />Be respectful of weather conditions, neighbors, burning <br />bans, and air quality so that nuisance, health or safety hazards <br />will not be created. <br />Open fires larger than three feet in diameter require a <br />permit which can be obtained at City Hall.
