CITY NEWSLETTER JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2003, VOLUME Ig NO. 1 <br />RAMSEY WANTS You <br />Planning Commission <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />The City of Ramsey is looking for residents who are interested in <br />participating in the development and governance of their community. There <br />is currently one vacancy on the Planning Commission and two vacancies <br />on the Park & Recreation Commission. The City needs residents who <br />have an interest in their community and who are willing to step forward to <br />fill these vacancies. <br />Nothing more than an interest in the community and the ability to <br />commit their time in attending monthly meetings is required. This is an <br />excellent way to meet other residents and to contribute in a very meaningful <br />way to your community. <br />In order to be considered for a seat on either the Planning <br />Commission or the Park & Recreation Commission, please submit a letter <br />of interest to the Human Resources Manager at City Hall, 15153 Nowthen <br />Boulevard NW, Ramsey, MN 55303, by January 17, 2003. <br />RAMSEY WINS NATIONAL <br />AWARD THIRD YEAR IN A ROW Y <br />The National Night Out (NNO) results are in - Ramsey pl ced <br />27th in the nation in our population category (15,000 - 49,999) ! Thank you <br />to everyone who participated in making this year another success! Our <br />program continues to grow and every year we strive to make it fun and <br />interactive for all of our residents. This year, the weather was beautiful, <br />mild and sunny. A perfect evening to get together with friends, meet the <br />neighbors and see how the kids are doing. Finally, it was a cool day for <br />McGruff! <br />It wasn't hard to choose a theme for our annual NNO celebration. <br />The events of September 1 lth took their toll, even in cities as far away <br />from Ground Zero as Ramsey, Minnesota. From the response we received <br />from our community, it was important to us to incorporate "patriotism" <br />throughout our year and in our celebrations as well. Maybe that played a <br />part in the 34% increase in participation from last year's total! We had a <br />record number of 1,750 participants! <br />Each year we try to offer new and different activities to entice <br />more participation. This year the new activities included: <br />Continued on Page 3 <br />city of f <br />RAMSEY <br />MSEY POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT <br />WELCOMES NEW CHIEF <br />On November 5th, Chief Dave <br />Gustafson retired from the City of Ramsey <br />Police Department, after serving 28 years with <br />the department, including five years as Chief of <br />Police. The City of Ramsey is excited to <br />announce that Jim Way has accepted the position <br />of Ramsey's newest Chief. Chief Way has over <br />17 years experience with the department, which <br />includes positions of Investigator and Sergeant. <br />In 2000, Chief Way graduated from the FBI <br />national academy, where he received special <br />instruction in the areas of budgeting, forecasting, <br />legal issues, communications, forensic science <br />and personnel. <br />The City is also pleased to announce <br />the following promotions in the police <br />department. Tim Dwyer recently accepted the <br />position of First Sergeant. Sgt. Dwyer has 12 <br />years with the department and will be <br />performing the administrative functions of the <br />department, as well as serving as the <br />department's acting chief in Chief Way's <br />absence. Brad Paplham, currently the <br />department's Corporal, has been promoted to <br />Sergeant and Tom Lueck, Patrol Officer, will <br />now serve as Corporal. Sgt. Paplham has been <br />with the department for eight years and has <br />served as a patrol officer, investigator, as well <br />as serving as the department's Corporal for the <br />last year. He will be overseeing the areas of <br />crime prevention, investigations and the <br />department's police reserve program. Corporal <br />Lueck has been with the department for 11 years <br />as a patrol officer, and will assist in the <br />supervision of the "day watch" and "mid watch" <br />shifts. Interviews are currently underway and <br />a new patrol officer should be on board by mid - <br />January. <br />
