3

2003 SPRING RECYCLING DAY RAcAP

The Spring Recycling Day was a great success with 255
residents in attendance! The weather was beautiful and Ramsey
residents were out in full force. Staff was busy assisting residents in
the collection of the following materials:
Appliances
Scrap Metal
Aluminum Cans and Newspaper
Tires (passenger and Truck)
Steel Rims
Furniture Donations
Fluorescent Bulbs
TVs
Electronics/Power Supplies
Batteries

193 units
8.5 tons
0.5 tons
476 units
1.61 tons
0.85 tons
211 units
0.5 tons
. 16 tons
1. 1 tons

Thank you to those residents who participated in the Spring
Recycle Day and at times may have waited in line for a considerable
amount of time. If you were unable to attend the Spring Recycle Day,
the City will host a Fall Recycle Day on September 27, 2003 from
8:00am - 12:00pm at the PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY located at
14100 J aspar Street.
The City of Ramsey's Recycling Program also includes curbside
picl(-up of aluminum cans, newspaper (including magazines, mail, and
phone books), food and beverage glass containers, and various plastic
products (plastic bottles with a neck). ACE Solid Waste Inc. is
contracted by the City to picl( up residential recycling every other
Monday. Please contact ACE Solid Waste at (763) 427-3110 to find
out what Monday your curbside recycling is picl(ed up. If you do not
have a recycling bin you can pick up a FREE recycling bin at City Hall
Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm.
If you have any questions related to the recycling program or
recycling day events, please contact Chris Anderson at (763) 433-9905.

WATCH YOUR CAR ~o

Do you drive your car between the hours of 1 :00 a.m. - 5 :00
a.m.? If the answer is no, then you may be interested in a new program
called the Watch Your Car program. This is a national vehicle theft
prevention program funded by the US Dept. of Justice. It has been
designed as a voluntary vehicle registration program to deter auto theft
and assist in the apprehension of auto thieves.
Vehicle owners must register in the program stating that their
vehicle is not normally used between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00
a.m. An identification sticl(er is placed on the windshield. If a police
officer observes the vehicle being driven during these hours, they may
stop the vehicle to verify the owner is operating it, or a person designated
by the owner.
To register for the program - contact Chandra Kreyer at
the Ramsey Police Department at 763-433-9891 or
claeyer@ci.ramsey.mn. us.

WATER CONSERVATION

To reduce peak water usage in areas
served by the municipal water system, the City
of Ramsey has implemented an odd/even day
sprinkling ban, pursuant to City Code 4.40.06
subd. 10. The sprinkling ban will be in effect
from Memorial day until after Labor Day.
Residents may water on odd numbered
days if their address ends in an odd number, and
on even numbered days if their address ends in
an even number.
The sprinl(ling restriction includes no
watering between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
since a significant amount of water is lost due to
evaporation during the hottest times of the day.
Homeowners with automated systems are
strongly encouraged to program them to operate
after 10:00 p.m. This minimizes evaporation and
lessens peal( demand on the system.
In addition to the residential sprinkling
ban, the City is in the process of implementing
an irrigation policy that is specific to townhouse,
multifamily residential and commercial
connections to the municipal water supply that
requires that:
. All irrigation systems must install an
approved backflow device
. All irrigation systems must include a
Rain Sensor device to prevent irrigation
systems from operating during rain
events.

PLEASE NOTE

Due to the high volume of building in
our community, the City requires at least two to
three days notice for all building inspections and
five to six days for building permit approval.

RUM RIvER LIBRARY

The Rum River Library is located at
4201- 6th Avenue North on the comer of County
Road # 116 (Bunker Lake Boulevard) and 7th
Avenue North (County Road #7) for more
information call 763-576-4695.

There s a fine line between courage and foolishness. Too bad it s not a fence. - Anonyn10us
