CC Regular Session <br />Meeting Date: <br />Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: <br />3. 3. <br />05/12/2026 <br />Title: <br />Recognition of Retiring Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director's 24 Years of Service <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director Matt Kohner's career has been defined by leadership, innovation, <br />and commitment to safety. <br />Kohner joined the department in 2002 as a paid on call firefighter. Over the years, he rose through the ranks as <br />Training Officer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and eventually Fire Chief/Emergency Management <br />Director. Along the way, he also served as the city's full-time Fire inspector and Fire Marshal. <br />Chief Kohner guided the fire department through a period of significant growth and modernization. One of his <br />most impactful achievements was leading the transition to a duty crew response model, a major shift in how the <br />department operates. This change strengthened both the department's operational readiness and the wellbeing of <br />its members. <br />Chief Kohner's last day as Fire Chief for the City of Ramsey will be May 22, 2026.
