<br />11 <br /> <br />REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON TEACHING <br />"POSITIVE PARENTING" <br /> <br />Where can professionals who worl( with parents turn for help <br />with teaching good parenting skills? To the University of Minnesota <br />Extension Service and its award-winning curriculum, "Positive Parenting." <br />A team of experienced Extension family relations specialists is <br />offering professional development workshops that prepare professionals <br />and trained volunteers to teach Positive Parenting. The program uses <br />proven, research-based methods to teach parenting skills. Extension <br />family relations specialists will be teaching the sessions at five sites <br />throughout Minnesota. <br />Each complete curriculum package includes a video, background <br />materials, lesson plans and reproducible handouts. "Positive Parenting I <br />and II" is for use with parents of children from birth up to 12 years of <br />age. Lesson topics include physical punishment, limits, consequences, <br />listening, anger, challenging behaviors, parenting tools, attention, respect, <br />responsibility, monitoring and siblings. <br />The "Positive Parenting of Teens" curriculum is for use with <br />parents of early adolescents, 10 to 16 years of age. Lesson topics include <br />parenting teens today, perception, development, communication, conflict, <br />discipline, teen decision-making and friends/peers. <br />Worl(shop will be held January 21,2004 at the Anoka County <br />Extension Service, 550 Bunker Lake Blvd. NW, Andover. <br />Workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3 :30 p.m. The training cost is $65, <br />including lunch, and pre-registration is required. Curriculum packages <br />range in price from $250 to $445. The Anoka, Ramsey, Andover Girls Fastpitch Association will <br />be having summer Registrations on February 23rd and March 1 st & 2nd, <br />from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Fred Moore Jr. High School in Anoka. Beginner <br />through advanced players, ages 8-18, are wanted! For <br />more information call 763-767-8870. <br /> <br />RAMSEY SENIOR'S <br /> <br />At the November meeting a guest <br />speaker talked to us about arthritis. After her <br />speech we played games and had lunch. There <br />were 34 members and 4 visitors present. At <br />the December meeting seniors brought in toys <br />for Toys for Tots. Darbin Nelson shared his <br />slides of the north countries he has visited.
