4

Lions Clubs are best known for their
services to the blind and visually impaired, but
we are also very active in helping the deaf and
hard of hearing. Lions Clubs throughout the
state support the Lions 5M International Hearing
Center. It is devoted to service, teaching, and
research in the area of hearing disorders. The
Fairview-University Medical Center houses the
Lions 5M International Hearing Center on the
University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
The center includes a temporal bone library and
lab for university students, a voice lab for
photographing patients' larynxes and a cochlear
implant program for children as young as one
year of age.
Lions Clubs also support organizations
such as Hearing and Service Dogs of
Minnesota. This non-profit group is dedicated
to helping Minnesotans who are deaf, hard-of-
hearing, or disabled to become more
independent and self-confident by pairing them
with specially trained assistance dogs.
Locally, the Ramsey Lions Club has
helped families defray the cost of hearing aids
for children. If you lmow of someone in need,
or just want to learn more, please visit our
website at www.RamseyLions.org, or contact
us at PO Box 771, Ramsey, MN 55303.

SNOWBIRD PARKING
INFORMATION

Remember not to park your motor
vehicle on any City street during a snowfall, or
afterwards, until it is plowed. Vehicles parl(ed
along the roadway cause the snowplows to go
around them, leaving unplowed areas. They
also present a danger to plow drivers when
visibility is poor. These "snowbirds" are tagged
and towed at the owner's expense! Save
yourself money and aggravation while you help
us provide for safe and efficient snowplowing
serVIces.

Snowmobile Article Continued From Page 2
WHO CAN OPERATE A SNOWMOBILE?
. People who are 18 or older. Effective 1 % 1/1998, persons
who were born after December 31, 1976, must possess a
snowmobile safety certificate. This is true even if the person
is over 18.
. A person who is at least 14 but younger than 18 may operate
a snowmobile if they have a valid safety certificate IN
THEIR POSSESSION.
.
