7 The Ramsey Lions will be hosting the annual community picnic at Central Park on Saturday, June 5, starting at noon. Please join us for this free, fun family event. For l(ids under 12 there are free games including a petting zoo and free hotdog and pop. Volunteers from Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4H and Ramsey Seniors Club will be assisting with the event. The stage will feature entertainment and demonstrations in the afternoon followed by an evening musical performance by "The Law". The Lions wellness van will be open 2 to 6 pm. The Ramsey Police and Ramsey Fire Departments will have exhibits and demonstrations. Ramsey Lions will be selling pork chops, brats and more. More activities and demonstrations to be announced. TOWN CENTER UPDATE Staff, the Parl( Commission, and the Developer have been actively working on finalizing plans for the parks to be located in the Town Center. The most recent discussions have been in regard to the improvements to be located in the park areas (i.e ball fields & structures) and the timing of the improvements. It is expected that the City Council will approve the final park plan in the next few months. The construction of Sun wood Drive and the associated infrastructure (sanitary sewer, water service, stormwater, landscaping) will commence at the beginning of May. The first portion of Sun wood Drive from Ramsey Blvd. to Rhinestone is expected to be completed by July 30, 2004. The remaining portion of Sunwood Drive all the way to Armstrong Blvd. will be completed by the end of October, 2004. The Developer also plans on beginning construction of additional roads in the Town Center. These roads include Peridot Street and Town Center Parkway. BIKE HELMETS Bil(e-related crashes l(ill 900 people every year and send about 567,000 to hospital emergency rooms with injuries. More than 40 percent of all head injury-related deaths and approximately three-fourths of head injuries occur among children ages 14 and under. Wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 850/0. Anoka County SAFE KIDS wants to mal(e sure your family has bike helmets. During the month of May, we will be traveling around the county distributing and PROPERLY FITTING bike helmets for Anoka County residents. There is a fee of $8.50 for each helmet. Bring the whole family, we will fit adults too - and we will be happy to fit helmets you already own. The Ramsey Happy Days celebration, scheduled for Saturday, September 18th, 2004, will celebrate this milestone for our community! Events this year will include the Teen Dance on Friday, September 17th at Lord of Life Church, and numerous events on Saturday the 18th, including a craft fair, car show, children's games, parade and evening street dance featuring the Rocl(in' Hollywoods. The Happy Days Committee is seel(ing volunteers to assist with planning and coordinating events during the Happy Days celebration. Additionally, the committee is seeking cash and prize donations from area businesses to support the event.
