With increasing participation
every year, it's the largest city-wide event yet! On Monday,
August 2nd, we began our kick-off with an open house at
the police department. Residents stopped in to sign up for
drawings, gather identity theft information and share a donut
or a burger with our staff. We also offered free ID cards
for children with our new system which produces an ID
that has important contact information on it, one fingerprint
and the child's digital photo. The evening celebrations on
NNO topped off at 29 neighborhood parties throughout
the city, eight of them were in new neighborhoods, and
two were all adult parties. It's a great way to meet your
new neighbors. Almost everyone was able to have special
visits from the Police and Fire departments, McGruff or
Scruff, and city council members.
We had 55 children turn in completed coloring
contests. Congratulations to our three winners of the NNO
coloring contest. Kelsey Jindra (age 3) won a gift
certificate to Toys R Us, a NNO Bear and a NNO t-shirt.
Marissa Alexy (age 9) won a new bil(e, compliments of
Ramsey Bicycle, and a NNO t-shirt. Jami Willenbring (age
11) won a pool party, compliments of Comfort Suites in
Ramsey, and a NNO t-shirt.
The 2004 "Award of Excellence" goes to Lisa
Bednorz and her neighbors on 148th Lane NW.
Congratulations to them for bringing awareness and
education to some of the leading causes of childhood injury
or death. They focused on bil(e and pedestrian injuries,
first aid, and fall injuries. Their neighborhood will be
awarded the Award of Excellence sign to have in their
neighborhood for the next year and a $100 gift certificate
to be used at their next neighborhood event. Thanl( you to
everyone who competed this year, everyone did a
wonderful job. We hope that your neighborhood benefited
from the experience of researching and teaching prevention
for decreasing unintentional injuries to children.
Some of our Ramsey businesses ran NNO specials
for their customers. They include: Bill's Superette, Sunfish
Express, Taco John's, St. Germain Style, Caribou Coffee
(Ramsey), Quizno's, Lily Pad Ceramics, LeTourneau's
SuperValu, Holiday (Hwy 10), Forever Floral, Curves,
Mansetti's Pizza & Pasta, and It Figures. Thanl( you for
supporting our city-wide celebrations!

FREE GUN LOCKS

Safe Kids Partners with Project ChildSafe

The Anoka County Chapter of MN Safe Kids has
partnered with Project ChildSafe in an effort to distribute over
20 million free firearm safety kits that include a gun locking
device and l(ey safety messages for parents across the nation.
Firearm accidents in the home can result from an
unauthorized individual, often a child, finding a loaded and
unsecured firearm in the home. The risk of firearms causing
unintentional injuries or deaths can be reduced when firearms
owners are aware of and fully understand their responsibility
to handle firearms safely and store them in a secure manner.
The goal of Project ChildSafe is to inform and educate all
firearms owners on safety issues and to provide kits that
include a gun lock.
To receive your free gun lock, stop by the Ramsey
Police Department during normal business hours. We've
all seen or read too many heartbreaking stories about children
finding unlocked guns in their homes and using them as toys -
with tragic consequences. An unlocl(ed gun is an invitation to
tragedy. Please take advantage of this opportunity to locl( up
all firearms by stopping by to receive yours.

CERTIFICATION OF
DELINQUENT SERVICE BILLINGS

Ramsey City Ordinances and Minnesota Statutes
allow for the annual certification of delinquent service billings,
which may include water, sewer, street lighting, recycling, storm
water, penalties incurred, and any other types of service billings
that are unpaid as of September 1,2004. Failure to pay would
result in the entire past-due amount being assessed against
the property, payable with property taxes payable in 2005.
An administrative fee plus interest will be charged.
Notices will be mailed to service addresses with
delinquent billings the first week of September notifying the
property of the delinquent billing and what will take place. A
public hearing to address unpaid service billings will be held
on September 28,2004, during the regular Council meeting, at
the Ramsey Fire Station Number 1- 15050 Armstrong
Boulevard, Ramsey, Minnesota.
To avoid receipt of a notice of delinquent service
billings, payments for utility billings must be received by
Connexus Energy by September 1, 2004. Other delinquencies
should be paid directly to the City of Ramsey and must be
received by September 1,2004.
If you have questions regarding this process, please
contact the Finance Office at 763-433-9847.

Every chance taken is one less that you'll regret not taking later one.
