2 FREE CHILD ID/FINGERPRINT CARD - By APPOINTMENT ONLY According to the National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrown away Children (October of2002), there are nearly 800,000 children reported missing each year (more than 2,000 per day). 58,200 children are abducted by non-family members while 115 children are the victims of the most serious, most long-term abductions. Precautionary measures include keeping a complete description of your child, taking color photographs every six months, l(eeping copies of your child's fingerprints, a sample of DNA, and maintaining medical records and dental charts. The Ramsey Police Department is offering FREE child ID/fingerprint cards to Ramsey children by APPOINTMENT ONLY on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the police department. We use a program that will record a digital thumbprint, a digital picture and your child's identifying information on a card that is the size of a driver's license. To schedule an appointment, call the Ramsey Police Department at (763) 427-6812. All scheduled appointments will receive information forms in the mail to complete and return to the police department no later than one weel( prior to the event date. Here are some great examples of how you can get involved in a child's life this winter: . Become a part of the Andover, Anoka and Ramsey Youth First! Meetings are held monthly at the Staff Development Center in Anoka. Everyone is welcome! Please check the web site at www.youthlst.net for meeting information, activities & more! . Get to lmow the l(ids by name in your neighborhood. Organize a winter neighborhood outing, lil(e ice skating or a game of hockey. . Take time to listen to youth. Find out what l(ids in the neighborhood like to do and help them organize it. . Tell people about your life experiences. It's a great season to tell them what you did during the winter when you were young. Maybe show them a new game. . Share your knowledge or a hobby with a youth. Thinl( about the great gifts you can help them make for their friends and relatives. . Make a commitment to demonstrate one act of asset-building every weel( (see web site for asset information) . Provide a safe place for youth to go if they are lonely or scared. Not alll(ids have parents at home after school and during non-school days. How about allowing your kids to invite them over for hot chocolate and a movie? . Donate time or materials for youth development programs. Or adopt a family for Christmas ! (Youth First sponsors many youth and family events in our area!) . Strengthen neighborhood watch and other neighborhood programs. Most people close themselves in during the dark winters. We want neighbors to continue to talk so that they lmow what is going on in their neighborhood. Winter is a great time to start a crime watch group!
