being done, but they do need to be home to allow CenterPoint Energy to relight appliances after the
work is completed. They will leave behind information on how to contact them to get customers' service
restored and pilot lights in appliances re -lit.
How long will service be disrupted? CenterPoint Energy will restore service shortly after
customers call them back and re -light pilot lights in their appliances.
What is involved in replacing a service line? Are they going to dig up yards and landscaping?
Service lines will be replaced from the meter to the street. CenterPoint Energy will need to dig a hole at
the meter and in or near the street where the main line is located. They will then disconnect the old
service line and abandon it (they will not remove the old line, which is standard and safe practice). The
new service line will be installed in a manner that is minimally intrusive. They will use the least
disruptive process when possible to replace a service line. When complete, a restoration crew will
return in a few weeks to restore the property.
Are ratepayers going to end up paying higher rates as a result of the replacement project?
CenterPoint Energy is focused on getting this project done before year -end. They will consider
recovering these costs from customers in the future. The costs are being incurred to ensure the safety and
reliability of their system, and it is standard practice to recover them through utility rates.
Is there anything customers and the public should be doing to make sure they are safe?
There are two important ways customers can help maintain the safety and integrity of the natural gas
distribution system:
If you smell gas:
Leave immediately. Do not use electrical switches, your phone, or anything that could cause a spark.
Go immediately to a safe location and call 911. CenterPoint Energy may also be called at 612 -372-
5050 or 1- 800 - 722 -9326 after you call 911.
Do not return until given permission by the utility or public safety officials.
Alert your neighbors. Do not assume anyone else has reported the leak.
Leave all repairs to trained utility technicians. Never try to repair a leak yourself.
If you plan to dig or excavate:
Call Gopher State One Call 651- 454 -0002 (metro area) at least two business days in advance of work to
have the location of underground utilities marked.
How can I contact CenterPoint Energy about concerns or comments regarding this project?
Residents can contact CenterPoint with the following phone numbers:
612 - 372 -4727
612 - 321 -5042
General project questions and concerns
Restoration questions and concerns
The City of Ramsey website (www.ci.ramsey.mn.us) will also be updated frequently with
information that may be helpful during this project. The City of Ramsey has also set up a hotline 763-
433 -9852 for you to call to report any non - emergency concerns regarding this project. This number will
allow you to leave a message with the City of Ramsey and should be used only after first attempting to
contact CenterPoint Energy at the above numbers. The representative from the City of Ramsey will then
contact you to meet with you at your residence and forward your concerns to CenterPoint Energy.
Thank you in advance for your patience. This project, as with any construction project, will
create dust, noise, disruption of service, construction traffic and general inconvenience. CenterPoint
Energy and the City of Ramsey are working collaboratively to ensure that the Service Line Replacement
Project is a successful project by minimizing that inconvenience.
